  1. Display a map of the United States of America and its flag.
  2. Have the children identify the American flag.
  3. Have the children take turns in tracing  the outline of the United states with their fingers.
  4. Read aloud the essential question.
  5. Help the children name their state and find it on the map.
  6. Have children locate areas of land and water.
  7. Examine the map with the children.
  8. Have the children answer the following questions: What map is this? What does this map tells you about the United states? Who can find our state? What our country looks like? Why is the outside of the United States blue?
