Content Specific Language:
Multiplication - a shortcut for repeated addition.
Property - a rule that makes a statement about the way numbers interact with each other during certain operations.
The Commutative Property of Multiplication - states that it does not matter which order you multiply numbers in, that you will get the same product.
The Associative Property of Multiplication - states that it doesn’t matter how you group numbers, that the product will be the same.
Numerical expression - a statement that has more than one operation in it.
Product - the answer to a multiplication problem.
Sum - the answer to an addition problem.
Evaluate - to figure out the value of an expression.
The Distributive Property - a property that is a true statement about how to multiply a number with a sum. Multiply the number outside the parentheses with each number inside the parentheses. Then figure out the sum of those products.
Divide - means to split up into equal parts.
Divisor - the number that goes outside of the division box.
Dividend - the number that goes inside the division box.
Quotient - the answer to a division problem.
Scientific Notation - a shortcut for writing longer numbers and decimals.
Powers of Ten - when a product can be derived by multiplying by 10. Examples 10, 100, 1,000 etc.
