Unit 8: Lesson 1: Activity 4

What the Experts Say--Collecting Writing Advice

[1]

Good advice for writing comes from everywhere and in many formats.

Standards:

11.9.8.8

As an individual or in collaboration, create a multimedia work, a remix of original work and the work of others, or a piece of digital communication for a specific purpose (e.g., to connect literature to a culture or a literary period, to recast a piece of literature into a different time period or culture, to critique popular culture, to create a parody or satire).

Learning Targets:

I can describe various writing philosophies, identify writing influences, critique contemporary literature pieces, and synthesize those into a writing advice multimedia presentation.

Essential Questions:

How do contemporary writers use the writing process to develop and strengthen writing while considering how it is appropriate to its audience and purpose?

Summary:

In this activity, you will collect the philosophies and advice of well-established writers and digitally present your findings.

You Will Need:

One or two 50-minute class periods

Internet access

Activity Instructions:

Step 1. Create2.jpg

After using the Internet and your own reading experiences for research, compile a collection of advice for writers in Storify[2].

Step 2. Create2.jpg

Your collection should include at least 10 different authors’ insights (in multiple link formats), at least 1 video link, at least 2 links about current writing trends, and at least 2 writing exercises/prompts links that you think are inspiring.
