We have an open PhD position in deep learning focused on identifying speech and language disorders in children, and developing speech technologies for pathological speech. This position is part of the research project "Advancing the Understanding and Diagnosis of Childhood Speech-Language Disorders Using Machine Learning," supported by the SickKids Foundation and CIHR.
The successful candidate will have dual supervision from Prof. Cem Subakan at Université Laval and Prof. Selçuk Güven at Université de Montréal/CHUSJ. They will pursue a doctorate in Computer Science from Université Laval's Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. While affiliated with Université Laval, they will conduct their research at the Centre de recherche Azrieli du CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal, as part of the Brain and Child Development axis within Prof. Güven's COALab.
The student will also be encouraged to take part in the Quebec / Montreal AI ecosystem, and will have an affiliation with Mila-Quebec AI Institute.

Minimum required qualifications:
Masters in Computational Neuroscience, Computational Psychiatry, Computational Medicine,
Speech-Language Pathology, Bioinformatics, Cognitive Science or Computer science and related
fields but with specialization and application of AI in healthcare.
Excellent background in machine learning and deep learning.
Excellent programming skills (e.g. python, pytorch).
Salary: (contingent upon satisfactory progress)
20000 CAD/year (tax exempt) + 1600 CAD / semester for the first 7 semesters
Expected Starting Date:
The student is expected to start in the Fall-2024 semester.
