An Artist’s Autographs
I have seldom seen a more interesting collection of autographs than that in the possession of Mr. Philip de Laszlo, the artist. He has just returned from painting the King of Egypt [see 4094], and King Fuad’s signature is one of the most recent.
Every sitter signs his or her name in a book, and Mr. de Laszlo has three books.
Royal Signatures
In the one I saw were the names of the King of Sweden, King Feisal, the Queens of Spain and Rumania, Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, President Harding, President Roosevelt and General Pershing. There were also the Pope’s and Mussolini’s, as well as those of Colonel House, Mr. Pierpont Morgan, Mr. Elihu Root and Mr. Walter. Page.
The Two Elizabeths
On one page alone were two Elizabeths. The first was spelt with a “z” and was the signature of the Duchess of York; the other below it was spelt with an "s" and represented the Queen of the Belgians.
On another page I read the words: "A life’s gratitude for three hours of divine inspiration. A great artist! Homage!" This was signed Elinor Glyn.
All the Spanish Royal Family were on another page, and General Primo de Rivera, the Spanish Dictator, was near by.
