My Inspiration

When we first met, you were my teacher,

kind and compassionate, never a preacher.

you showed your love of literature and writing;

for me as a student, you were enlightening.

My high school years came and went by;

college began, and you were still by my side.

During those four years when I was at college,

you were there, with encouragement and knowledge.

Then you were faced with challenges anew,

but your strong faith and friendships got you through.

Those rough years were a lesson to all,

and you showed us just how to bounce back from a fall.

The day finally came when I became a teacher,

hoping to follow your footsteps with that same caring feature.

A new branch of our relationship sprouted and grew

with annual summer luncheons, keeping us fresh and new.

When I've had a question, to you have I turned

because I trust your response and continue to learn.

Kathy, you've make a difference in so many lives

and helped mold numerous husbands and wives.

Not only did you teach all those English skills,

but you also showed students how to deal with rough hills.

The life lessons that weren't in the curriculum

have touched hundreds of students, each and every one.

Your positive attitude and caring face

will be welcomed by all in any new place.

As you close your gradebook at KHS,

I know that your future will be a success.

I've said this to you many times before,

but now you must remember it even more.

You are the source of my true inspiration,

to touch kids' lives with that same dedication.

The little things that you've said and done

are the reasons that I also became one.

Teaching is not something anyone can do,

but you've done it so well, and I hope I do, too.
