anti-racist refs and personal notes

  •  50+ LINKS and or ways to help:

  • Other helpful masterdocs and or threads:

Continue for resources masterdoc….

  • WHAT YOU (non-black person) CAN DO:

  1. Sign petitions, call/email your local reps and DONATE: black people are owed reparations. Supporting and funding the movement is the BARE MINIMUM

-bail funds

-black lead organisations

-black individuals

[if you feel overwhelmed by the amount of petitions/funds you are seeing and don’t know where to start, I try to take note and set some time aside to work through them gradually? (donating even 1 or 2 pounds on petitions can advertise them to 60 or so more people!)

*EDIT: it has been advised to avoid donating to and instead put your money directly into the funds of each respective cause via other donation platforms (organised by whoever is championing it) (-although donating may increase exposure, profits significantly)

Do your research on the organisations listed below: and pick one (or more) (if you can) to donate to monthly, and/or otherwise simply put time in- to working through  petitions daily and donate a lil sumn every day/week/____

Act blue has a resource (listed below) that splits one donation equally between different state bail out funds!]

educate (READ READ READ!) (& actively engage) not just yourself, but ANYONE you can around you: talk to, privately message, email, share and confront white supremacy in yourself, your home, friends, parents, younger siblings, extended family, local community, etc: keep the conversation going not only right now but most importantly AFTER blm falls out of the favor of mainstream media.

Follow & surround yourself with and support black creators, pay them for their efforts. Thank them.

make notes,

think critically,

redistribute these ideas in your own frame of thought,

have hard conversations,

commit and encourage friends to commit to consistent learning and calling out racism and complacency,

and make sure you know the facts: (credibility/ avoiding spread of false info is important).

think of inventive ways in which you can redistribute the wealth you have,

(without centering your own work/brand)

whether it merely be economic wealth,

time, physical effort, property:

e.g make your own personal resource,

reading list,

print flyers and distribute in your area,

raise money for one (or more) of the causes linked below by shedding/ sharing some of your own means (clothes or trade, all proceeds going to ____) OR

being active in pre-and-post-protest efforts: contribute protest supplies, aid, care packages or anything you can (food/water/protection/PPE)

In a longitudinal sense, change your spending habits:

Commit to buying a suggested at least 15% of your products from black owned businesses and boycott white-owned businesses that do not speak up on racial justice.

  1. SHOW UP:

use your privilege in the most literal sense (keeping in mind the current pandemic and assessing your own personal and interpersonal risk:)

if you can, protest!

Put your body on the line: form a barrier between black people and the police.

Protect black bodies, even and most importantly when it puts you out of your own comfort zone
