The children will identify things in the natural environment that are important to one’s self.

What are mountains like? 

  1. Read aloud the poem “Mountains.”
  2.  Display pictures of different mountains.
  3. Have the children describe the mountains.
  4. Ask the children to name the animals that live in the mountains.
  5. Invite the children to describe the animals. Tell the children to consider each  size, appearance, and habits.
  6. Have the children look at the pictures.
  7. Have the children answer the following questions: What does the little boy like to do in the mountain? Look at the pictures What animals might James see on his hike? What types of plants might he see? What things might mountains have that people need?
