This Week at UNITY

ctk-30-30.pngcol-30-30.png  This is… Pentecost weekend on the worldwide church calendar and locally, it’s First Communion weekend. Pentecost is the third biggest celebration on the Christian calendar, recalling the gift of Jesus’ Spirit to his people. We claim that Spirit always but especially on a day like today, where our third graders receive their First Communion. What an exciting and Spirit-filled day for them. Please keep them in your prayers that their faith can grow and that others may look at them and see the love of Jesus at work.

LIVE LOVE! Our goal for the year is to fill the logos (in the narthex/lobby) at each campus with ways we’ve lived love! The number of hearts on our narthex logos is slowly growing… ADD one yourself.  OR… stand there for awhile and read what others have posted so far! And remember, it’s not bragging to tell how you were able to impact someone else’s life or they yours. We are sometimes so afraid of “bragging” that we don’t tell AT ALL about how love is real in our lives. We all need role models and examples. Use those heart-stories to share what Jesus is doing through or in you.

Eagle Project Thanks! Dear Unity, Thank you for your generous support of my Eagle Project.  We had a great turnout and the gaga ball pit turned out amazing! The Unity Senior High even used it already last Sunday! Thank you! ~Evan Taipala

Save the date!  UNITY Festival is Friday, August 24 & Saturday, August 25 with Outdoor Worship on Sunday, August 26.  You won’t want to miss the music, games, food, raffle and silent auction.  Mark you calendars today!

Update from the Call Committee: We have some exciting news to share!  The Synod has narrowed down candidate profiles and provided us names to review and interview.  Here’s what the next steps of the call process look like:

Please keep us in your prayers as we meet & learn more about each of the candidates and work together to reach consensus in identifying the best individual to join and lead our congregation.  Please also pray for the candidates, as they pursue new opportunities in their lives and learn more about us. Look for another update in June!

Elections ~ June 2-3 after services. Please plan to stay after service for the semi-annual congregation voting meeting on June 2-3. We will elect (or re-elect) members to the UNITY Council in the following positions: Finance, Group Opportunities, President, Property, Recording Secretary, Servant Ministries, and Treasurer. This important work will take just 3-4 minutes after each of the weekend services to affirm or add to the nominating slate.  Thank you!

UNITY to Host UConn and Western Washington Ultimate Frisbee Teams Memorial Day Weekend: Looking for Bedding, Shoppers, and Meal Help. The D1 college national tournament for ultimate frisbee will again be at Uihlein Park May 25-28… when it was held there in 2015 we hosted the Princeton team at COL… and this year we had TWO teams ask to stay with us, one at each campus. We know it’s a little crazy, but can you help us find FIFTY sets of bedding we can borrow? That would be air mattresses, foam mattresses, camp cots, camping pads… sleeping bags, blankets, sheets, and pillows! LABEL with your name and drop off at either campus (Room 201 at COL, Choir Room at CTK) We’d also love to feed them a meal at least once during their stay… if you can help with shopping, team dinner, or bed set up please contact Pr. Muriel.

El Salvadoran Lutheran Bishop Gomez and wife Pastora Abelina to Visit COL Campus for Worship Saturday, May 26th. What an honor! Please join us as we welcome Pastora Abelina and Bishop Gomez to our Saturday service next week and for an informal reception afterwards in the narthex and Fellowship Hall.

UNITY Member Care

Contact Debbie Riederer, c: 414-587-2656, e:

Care.  Communication issues with your parents? Friend issues? Sadness in your life? Anxiety about a relationship that’s not healthy? Taking more pills or drinks than you’d like? Don’t face these things alone. Don’t face deaths, hospitalizations, a job loss, or bad grades alone either. Our Pastors and pastoral care Coordinator Debbie Riederer are always available to you. Sometimes we’re the only stop you’ll make in reaching out...other times, we are the first stop in a healing process that might include more skilled professionals or supportive connections that get made in the process. All of that works itself out once we start talking, but the hard and yet blessing-filled first step is just knowing you can reach out.
