Updates and Reminders for the week ending August 16

This Week We…

Math:  We learned about customary capacity and weight.

ELA:
We read two poems about oysters and noticed poetic elements.  Students compared and contrasted the two poems and then illustrated one of them in a puzzle that included 4 details from the poem.

Science/ Social Studies: began learning about the properties of matter.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL):  continued reviewing all of the DIVE expectations.

Next Week We Will…

Math: We are starting our first Eureka Module, working on the beginnings of multiplication.

ELA:
We will begin our first Fundations unit, reviewing closed syllables, glued sounds, and learn some closed-syllable exceptions.  Students will also take the beginning of year i-Ready Reading Diagnostic, and research plants and animals that can be found in different zones of the ocean.

Science/ Social Studies: learn about the properties of gasses.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): talk about what identity means and how we have different kinds of identities based on our family, our community, and our heritage. This discussion supports our school’s Statement of Inclusivity that you can read on our school website.
