the lgbtq+ community has faced discrimination for as long as this country has existed, the first gay rights organization began in 1924 and the community has continued to fight for their rights since then. june is signified as pride month to commemorate the 1969 stonewall riots, the stonewall riots were begun by a drag queen, marsha p. johnson, as a response to a police raid in greenwich village. the stonewall riots were a turning point for the lgbtq+ community, but the fight for equal rights is still ongoing so it is important that you educate yourself on how to help and to never stay silent.
