Latecomers on the Lido

There is another side to the Lido [illegible] picture in which pyjama fantasies play so conspicuously a part. When the sunbaskers, “stunt” artists, and other gay birds of passage are again on the wing, and the Lido is emptying of fashion in the more worldly sense, one may still happen across distinguished visitors of a different category in the locales deserted by La Mode. Art and literature just now are well represented. Lazlo [sic], the portrait-artist, sits upon San Marco and paints the bronze steeds. Now and then he is joined by Edmund Dulac, inseparably associated with the de luxe illustrated edition of Omar Khayyam, who talks to his fellow-artist friend while the latter’s brush is busy. Characteristically, Florian’s claims Arnold Bennett’s “moments perdus”; while a brother scribe who also likes the Lido when the more hectic season is over is A.E.W. Mason, of “Four Feathers” fame.
