In order for camp staff to be able to be of support to you and your child, please contact Chancellor Stephan Price at 503-893-8939 before you contact your child. After that, you may also contact them if they are carrying a cell phone. Otherwise, he will arrange for them to call you as soon as possible.
Students stay in the dorms at Linfield University. Most student rooms are double or triple occupancy,; so typically, students will have 1 or 2 roommates. Dorms are equipped with single beds, most being extra long. Please bring your own bedding (sheets and blanks, or sleeping bags.)
There is no air conditioning in the dorms. It is recommended to bring a small personal fan for your dorm room. The dorm wiring does not permit window air conditioners.
Students will be housed according to how they identify as male or female on their registration form in separate buildings or on separate forms. An effort is made to room students with others of similar age/gender profile and also to room students with requested roommates, when feasible.
Students eat three meals per day in the Dillon Dining Commons at Linfield University. Options are available for each meal that are vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. Additional food options are available upon request. Please be sure to indicate special food needs on the registration form.
Yes, friends/family may visit. However, in order to maintain the integrity of the program, family visits must be prearranged and scheduled. Please contact The Chancellor prior to any visits so as to not disrupt the student while in the performance of their duties. Please also refrain from texting or otherwise communicating with family and friends. Focus on the program and you will have more fun and be more successful.
All visitors must adhere to spectator guidelines. Click here to learn more.
A Doctor’s Physical is highly recommended. However, we do not require proof, as the student's parents certify the health of the student on the Unified Signature Form.
See the How to Prepare for Young Leaders Program page: http://www.ylprogram.org/resources/prepare
Yes, phones are allowed. However, use of cellular telephones is restricted to appropriate times and places. Additionally, common sense and courtesy are required. Violations may result in revocation of this privilege or program dismissal. Cell phone usage is regulated by the rules: http://www.ylprogram.org/resources/rules Please familiarize yourself with cell phone rules prior to coming to camp.
Parking at Linfield University is free to parents, staff and others. Students are discouraged from driving and as such are charged a fee for parking for the week of $20. Additionally, students must turn in their keys to the Chancellor or his designee during check-in. If your car “leaves” campus for any reason without permission of the Chancellor you will be sent home.
If you attend, you are required to attend the entire program until graduation. If you cannot attend the entire week, please do not apply. Exceptions to the policy must be approved in advance by The Chancellor.
As soon as you know you will be arriving late, contact the Chancellor at 503.893.8939.
The Saturday after the program is for the UhN and Graduation. Here is the schedule for UhN Day: https://www.ylprogram.org/ylc.html
You must remain on campus the entire time. Exceptions must be specifically authorized by the Chancellor.
Students are not allowed to go beyond campus boundaries unless specifically approved by The Chancellor. This map shows the boundaries of the camp. Anything beyond this is “off campus” and will result in you going home.
Students going beyond those boundaries without specific permission will be dismissed from the program.
Generally, there is no need to bring any American Money ($) except for certain circumstances. You will earn in-game currency through your work in the SimuNation™ that you can use to pay fees and fines, as well as purchase goods and services in-Sim. You may bring American currency to pay for parking or YL Store.
We are happy to allow students to room with friends, and you may designate one person to room with. Please note each cabin houses 3-4 students, so in addition to your friend you will have new friends in your cabin as well!
Laundry service is available and free. Laundry detergent is available from the YL Store.
No. This is our standard protocol for students with diabetes:
*Or a Senior Staff Member, if the Medic is unavailable.
A good assumption. But in case you were wondering, if you are caught in possession of, or using alcohol or drugs, you will be sent home immediately. This includes vapes, chew, marijuana in any form, or unauthorized drugs. We will contact your parents, sponsor etc. and explain to them why you are being sent home.
There is no rule about breaking the laws of the simulation (SimLaws). SimLaws are part of the simulation and any consequences are handled within the simulation as well. (You will probably get a ticket and have to go to court.)
Young Leaders Program expects you to be safe, respectful, and responsible while engaging fully in the program. If you demonstrate that you cannot do that, then you cannot be at Young Leaders Program. The rules are here: http://www.ylprogram.org/resources/rules
Breaking a real-world law invokes real world consequences, and is also a violation of the Rules (be safe, be respectful, be responsible). Don’t break a real-world law!
The Associate Chancellor supports students who struggle with behavior and violations of the rules, monitoring and assisting students to engage in the program appropriately. Generally, we follow a system of natural consequences for behavior. Specifically:
Be Safe | Be Respectful | Be Responsible |
Behavior that Hurts | Behavior that Hinders Progress | Behavior that Helps |

All students are automatically subscribed to the Remind app. This communication tool allows students to contact the Chancellor directly and also allows for mass text messaging from the Chancellor to all students.
Additionally, Young Leaders Program uses Google Apps for Education and as a result has access to the new Hangouts Chat and Meet. Your student can access those apps to communicate with other students and staff. More information is available here: https://get.google.com/chat/
While situated in the middle of McMinnville, Oregon, the campus is somewhat far from most services, so there are no services beyond the following:
