Butterfly watching with Alok Kumar
With the theme of creating butterfly habitats at home, a butterfly-watching event is organized with Alok Kumar at Nehar Sahibi. A deeper understanding of the interaction between butterflies and host plants was taught to participants. A thoughtful discussion took place on butterfly origin their evolution to the importance they hold in the modern world. People were shared with the idea of creating a butterfly habitat near their home along with the rearing process. People witnessed different life stages of butterfly’s during the walk.
Notable sightings from the day were caterpillars and pupa of Emigrant, Lime swallowtail, Lemon Pansy and Plain tiger, Eggs of Emigrant, and Species of nearly 20 different butterflies. Some species of Moths and spiders were also recorded.
Herpetology Night Walk with Jose Louies, WTI in Collaboration with Magucho
The night walk dedicated mostly to helping was organized in partnership with Magucho (Gul Panag’s initiative). The primary objective of the walk was to create awareness among the masses about snakes, lizards, frogs, and other nocturnal creatures which are often misunderstood. Dr. Robin Suyesh, Asst. Professor, DU, a specialist on frogs with his surprise visit made the evening more adventurous as he gave the participants a deeper understanding of frogs through his movie and a brief talk.
Species of Owls, frogs (5 out of 8 species found in Delhi), Snails, Slugs, Bats, Lizards, geckos, and other smaller insects were recorded.
In addition, a Moth light trap was also set up. Species of Tussock moths, Fruit piercing moths, Tiger moths, and other various micromoths were observed.
