Dear Mr. de László,
Words utterly fail me to describe to you my feelings of regret and disappointment alike not to have been able to accept your kind invitation for 26th of last month and I must ask for your indulgence for a somewhat lengthy explanation which I am about to give

you but, without which I can hardly show cause for my apparent tho’ not actual neglect or indifference.
My wife has for the last 2 or 3 years been in indifferent health and acting on medical advice which prescribed a complete change of air and surroundings, I decided to send her to a seaside place.
On October 16th both she and my little girl left for Herne Bay where they have been ever since and likely to remain

for a further period of six months or so.
I then moved from 12 Crondace Rd and notified my friends of this change of address.
Not till I received your kind invitation did it occur to me that I have to plead guilty to an omission is so much as I forgot to notify you also of this change. I herewith tender my apologies for this neglect and trust you will accept the same, the more so, as it is given with deep felt regret.
Yesterday the owner of 12 Crondace Rd came in

person and handed to me some letters among which was your letter dated Dec. 20th and the only offer of an explanation I got was that, she did not think they were of consequence and could not find the time to deliver them before.
I wish to thank you, - also on behalf of Mrs. Egerer, for your kind invitation which I regard as an honour and a priviledge and which had I received it in due course, I would have gladly accepted.
Now I really would like you to afford me an

opportunity of meeting you – any day to suit your convenience, preferably forenoon or afterwards and I feel confident to hear from you favourably regarding my request.
I am still without any news from my people and should like to consult you, as to the possibility of communicating with them.
I wish you (rather belated) but in all sincerity a happy New Year. May I also ask you to convey to Mrs. László and your family my best

wishes.
With kindest regards and repeated sincere apologies | Believe me | Yours very sincerely
O.V. Egerer
P.S. Will you be so kind to let me know a few days beforehand, so that I may keep that day free, for calling upon you? Thanking you once more,
Yours v. sincerely
Egerer
