Kaboom Sports & Social Club
4v4 Co-ed Beach Volleyball
Kaboom beach volleyball is played under the guidelines of US Volleyball with the following exceptions:
Game
Each week each team will play 1 match (3 games per match) against another team in a 45-minute time slot.
Overall Calls
There will be no refs for games. Each team will be playing using the honor system and will have to call all illegal hits, net touch, carries, and faults. Teams should resolve any discrepancies. If play is still in question, play it over. There is no open hand tips allowed to redirect the ball. Ball must be hit with knuckles for a tip. Teams are responsible for keeping score. Say the score before every serve.
Full Team
A full team consists of up to 6 players who will sub in and out after each serve OR a team of 4 who want to play together and pay the full team fee. Two females and two males on the court is preferred, but three of one gender is acceptable. A team may decide to play with a minimum of two players from original roster if they do not have a full team ready to play at start time, but a female and male needs to be on the court at all times. If a team is late at start time there will be a point awarded a minute to the ready team for up to 11 minutes, then a forfeit is given for that game. Then repeat for second game and if still no show, game is forfeited and ready team wins match 2-0. If still not there for game 3, ready team wins 3-0 overall.
Substitution
Free substitution on a rotational basis for teams of 6. The service order has to stay the same using all of the teams players. If a team will not have enough players, approved Kaboom subs can play in registered players’ place. A team must have at least two of its roster players present to avoid forfeiting the game.
Scoring
Rock, paper, scissors, at the beginning of the match, winner chooses side or serve or receive. Matches are best of 3 games to 21 using rally scoring with a cap of 23. The third game is played to 15 using rally scoring with a cap of 1 and rock, paper, scissors is repeated before the 3rd game if tied 1 and 1 wins. If the time runs out, the team with the most points wins. We will be using the honor system, it is the responsibility of the receiving side to make a judgment on the point. If point cannot be agreed upon, replay serve. Game is over when 45 minute time slot is reached regardless of the score.
Receiving the Serve
It is illegal to attack the ball with open hands on the serve. Hands must be connected when made contact when receiving the serve. You can not set a serve.
Start of Games
First serve will be decided by rock, paper, scissors or coin toss. The receiving team will serve the second game. Repeat the first game step for the third game.
Timeouts
Each team has one 30 second chance for a time out. (Don’t take too long of a break after each game because that will interfere with play time of your 45 minute slot.)
Sportsmanship
Sportsmanship must be practiced at all times. Directors and representatives of Kaboom reserve the right to remove any player or team from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Playoffs
The top 6 teams will play in the playoffs. Team 1 and 2 will have a bye. Team 3 vs. Team 6 will play game 1. Team 4 and Team 5 will play game 2. Team 1 will play winner of 3v6 in game 3. Team 2 will play winner of 4v5 in game 4. Game 5 will be the championships, which will consist of the best of 2 out of 3 games in 1 match.
Standings are calculated by the following: (1) winning percentage, (2) head to head play (2 teams), (3) most games won, (4) fewest games lost, (5) coin flip.
Directors and Kaboom representatives reserve the right to amend any and all of these rules if necessary, for safe and fair play. Please email info@kaboomssc.com for more info.
