Beginning

Hello! If you're reading this you probably wanna learn about Jungian and Socionics basics without all the unnecessary, complicated socionics diagrams without the basics, and people just sending you function descriptions without explanation. In this doc I’ll be giving away how to read/translate Jungian and Socionic types, sources, and quotes from function descriptions. It’s highly suggested you go read official sources, but if you don’t feel like finding the right info in 1000 page books and still want to learn, then here you can just read the basics and then expand your information as you learn. I’ve collected everything you need to start. :P

Disclaimers:

1. Translating your MBTI over to Jungian and Socionics is not guaranteed to be accurate. But, they use similar concepts with cognitive functions, so don’t go saying you’re ENFJ is(f) and SEI all at the same time. Contradictions are real.

2. You need to know the concept of every function before switching between MBTI, Jungian, socionics, or whatever you’d like to do. Read descriptions of each function, how extraversion and introversion applies in types, and relationships/placements within systems.

IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND DICHOTOMIES IN SOCIONICS

What are dichotomies? Dichotomies are just, in simple terms: Opposite sides of a category. Antonyms. Examples of Dichotomies in typology are myer brigg’s MBTI and Global 5. The letters in MBTI represent polar sides; Introversion and Extraversion. Intuitive and Sensing, and so on. Those are examples of dichotomies, which are heavily used in typology, especially socionics.

After getting used to Jungian and Socionics, you can throw away MBTI!

Jungian

How to read the Jungian types(diagram doesn’t show on dark mode)

E.g: (IF(N) Introverted Feeling[Fi](intuition)
E.g 2: (ET(S)  Extraverted Thinking[Te](Sensing)

Starting off with the
red line, the first two letters of a jungian type stand for the leading function of the type. The first letter is the extraversion/introversion, the second letter is the function type. In IF(N)’s case, it would stand for (I)Introverted (F)Feeling. The letter in the (parentheses) stands for the secondary function. (If IF(N)’s first function is Fi, the second would be intuitive, Ne/Ni)  Notice how it doesn’t have a specific extraversion/introversion attached to it? Because Jungian is not restricted to the EIEI/IEIE function stack.

This is just a doc where I've collected some of Jungian’s words and put them into a doc.
If you wanna read a detailed explanation of his functions, go to number 6 of his collected works, Psychological types. It can be found in my linktree.

Wikisocion
Disclaimer about Wikisocion: It has everything about Socionics. When I say everything, I mean
everything. Introduction to socionics, Dating sites, organizations, tests, forums. It is very useful and is where I suggest going, but if you're anything like me, you’ll have lots of trouble navigating and end up reading everything BUT the important information. Don’t get too wrapped in possible misinfo.(I’ve heard not all of Wikisocion is reliable)

The introduction to Socionics website includes the history, relation to MBTI, how it came up, and is basically like learning a new topic in a lengthy history college class. It’s long and includes a ton of reading. I believe it IS actually REALLY helpful though if you scroll past the “Avation Socionics” paragraph. If you’re interested in that, here.

How to read the socionic types

E.g: EII
E.g 2: SLE
E.g: Ethical Intuitive Introvert
E.g 1: Sensory logical Extravert

E: Ethics(feeling)
L: Logic(thinking)
S: Sensing
I: intuition

When reading the socionic types, if you look at the diagram above, the red highlighted letters stand for the first two functions of model A. In the first example,
E stands for Ethics, and I stands for Intuition. The letter highlighted in blue is the type’s Introversion/extraversion

DICHOTOMITES

This is very important. When it comes to socionics, they have a whole-load ton of DICHOTOMIES. This makes socionics a whole different world from jung or MBTI(obviously)

This is one of the reasons(besides model A) why socionics upperhands everything, because of it’s precision. Now, there’s no need to intensely memorize every dichotomy and apply it to every type(on top of having each types cogfunction model A position influence in mind) It’s even more important to understand the concept.

Jungian has 4 dichotomies. The popular 4 are what follows:

Introversion/Extraversion

Sensing/Intuition

Feelings(ethics in socioncis)/Thinking

Rational/Irrational

These are also called the first-tier dichotomies in socionics.

A dichotomy is a trait that divides phenomena into 2 opposite categories. Think of antonyms from elementary school.

MODEL A

info: sociotype.com

Now, socionics is much more complex than MBTi and Jungian. It was derived from those two and is now its own system. When I make this introduction to socionics, I am not an expert myself, I’m only grabbing helpful information/sites and putting it into one doc. I am not gonna be explaining socionics Model A! So! Read
this link

Some things I want you guys, who are reading, to know is that Socionics was heavily derived from Jung's cognitive types. Jung was literally the founder and building block of the functions, or at least that’s what I've concluded from my readings. Naranjo was inspired by Jung(Source: Character and Neurosis book) and Socionics was derived from Jungian. As you read the functions, keep in mind that MBTI and Socionics was derived from Jung and that Jung was the original. If you’d like to do your own reading, wikisocio and jung’s works are a good place to start. They’re both in my link tree.

Aushra Augusta’s description on the dichotomies quoted and collected

The Ego and Id functions are called strong, and the Super-ego and and super-id functions are called weak. Strong functions have a much higher capacity and ability to accurately metabolize information. This manifests in a more sophisticated understanding and use of the information in the function's sphere. The person feels confident in using these functions
