PAGE 1 — WHY THIS MATTERS

Before heading to work or driving long distances, a quick 5-minute inspection can help prevent:

  • Engine damage
  • Overheating
  • Brake issues
  • Missed jobs
  • Costly downtime
  • Safety risks

For fleet vehicles:

One vehicle down can delay deliveries, appointments, and revenue.

Small checks prevent big problems.

PAGE 2 — ENGINE OIL CHECK

How to Check Engine Oil

  1. Make sure the engine is OFF.
  2. Open the hood.
  3. Locate the dipstick (usually yellow or orange handle).
  4. Pull it out and wipe it clean.
  5. Insert it fully back in.
  6. Pull it out again and check the level.

The oil should be between the MIN and MAX marks.

Normal:

✔ Amber to light brown color

Warning Signs:

⚠ Below MIN level

⚠ Thick, black, or gritty texture

Do not overfill if adding oil.

If low, look up oil type sometimes on oil fill cap.

PAGE 3 — COOLANT CHECK (CRITICAL SAFETY STEP)

🚨 WARNING: ONLY CHECK COOLANT WHEN THE ENGINE IS COMPLETELY COLD. NEVER OPEN A HOT RADIATOR OR COOLANT CAP. SERIOUS BURNS CAN OCCUR.

How to Check Coolant

  1. Ensure engine has been off for several hours.
  2. Locate the coolant reservoir (clear plastic tank).
  3. Check fluid level against the MIN and MAX lines.
  4. Level should sit between the lines.

Here’s a dirty reservoir:

Warning Signs:

⚠ Below MIN level

⚠ Rusty, dirty, or discolored coolant

Low coolant increases overheating risk.

PAGE 4 — BRAKE FLUID CHECK

How to Check Brake Fluid

  1. Locate the brake fluid reservoir (usually near the back of the engine bay).
  2. Check that fluid level is near the MAX line.
  3. Fluid should be clear to light amber.

Warning Signs:

⚠ Fluid below minimum line

⚠ Dark brown or dirty fluid

Low brake fluid can affect stopping performance and indicate worn brake pads.

Low fluid may indicate worn brake pads and you may need to get replaced!

PAGE 5 — WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID CHECK

How to Check Washer Fluid

  1. Locate the washer fluid cap (usually marked with a windshield symbol).
  2. Open cap and visually inspect level.
  3. Fill if low.
  4. Here is the windshield washer fluid reservoir below the coolant reservoir

Clear visibility is essential for safe driving.

PAGE 6 — WINDSHIELD WIPER CHECK

Inspect Wiper Blades

  1. Check rubber blades for cracks or splits.
  2. Look for stiffness or fraying.
  3. If wipers streak or skip, replace them.

Poor wipers reduce visibility in rain and bad weather. Last thing you want is to not be able to see in the rain it puts your life at risk.

PAGE 7 — TIRE CHECK

Quick Tire Inspection

  1. Visually inspect all four tires.
  2. Look for:
  • Low air pressure
  • Uneven wear
  • Cracks or bulges
  1. Check tread depth.

Warning Signs:

⚠ Bald or worn tread

⚠ Uneven wear patterns

⚠ Visible damage

Proper tires improve safety, fuel efficiency, and handling.

PAGE 8 — EXTERIOR LIGHT CHECK (IMPORTANT FOR NIGHT DRIVING)

Before driving at night or early morning, confirm all lights are working.

Turn the vehicle on and check:

✔ Headlights (low beam and high beam)

✔ Brake lights

✔ Turn signals (left and right)

✔ Hazard lights

✔ Reverse lights

Tips:

  • Park near a wall to check headlight reflection
  • Ask someone to stand behind the vehicle
  • Use reflection from windows or mirrors

Burned-out lights increase accident risk and may result in traffic violations.

For fleet vehicles:

One faulty bulb can become a liability.
