What is the Summeread Program?

It is a mandatory summer reading program that is designed to foster a child’s life-long habit of reading that will expand his/her knowledge base, vocabulary bank, and imagination…even after the school year has ended.

Where is the Summeread List Posted?

The book list is online at the TR district website, www.trschools.com, at all high school websites, and on the Ocean County Library’s website, www.theoceancountylibrary.org. The response sheets and the parent letter are also posted on the TR website.

Who has to read a book and how many books should he/she read?

ALL students must read at least one book from the list (SUMMEREAD: GRADES 9-12) booklist during the summer. We highly encourage parents/guardians to assist their child in making reading selections.

HONORS STUDENTS have to read two books: one fiction and one nonfiction book (fiction and nonfiction selections are designated on the list).

AP LIT, AP LANG, ADV. H, & WORLD LIT STUDENTS have their OWN Summer Reading lists and assignments. Their books and assignments are listed on their high school’s website. If nothing is listed, they will complete the Honors Students’ requirement above.

What grade level should the student choose?

Refer to the book list of the grade that the student is entering this fall.

What is the Summeread written assignment?

In September, all of our students will be required to hand in a Response Sheets about their book on the first day of school. Students must choose the appropriate response sheet (for fiction or nonfiction). Honors students will have to fill out TWO response sheets: one for fiction and one for nonfiction. This assignment is a course requirement and it will be counted as a test grade.
