Sunday evening

Dear Mr Laszlo –

I write a line for my brother to say how terribly sorry he is to have to make yet another change – He only arrived here at 7.45, – & during

dinner he received a telegram recalling him at once to the camp, so he has to leave by the first train tomorrow morning.[1] It is all terribly upsetting, & Arthur asks me to give you his deepest

apologies, but of course he was quite unable to help this sudden & unexpected change of plans, – We are all so very sorry for the great inconvenience you have been put to, & can only thank you very sincerely for all your kindness

& readiness to do anything that was possible.

We would have telephoned to you this evening, sooner, but ever since the telegram came Arthur has been using the telephone for business with the War Office, & now it is 11.30, & too late to ring you up.

With again many thanks, | Believe me, | Yours sincerely

Henrietta Leith Hay

Editorial Notes:

In this letter, the sender is apologising on behalf of her brother, likely because he is unable to sit for the artist as planned. See DLA074-0047 and DLA074-0048 from Mrs Charles Edward Norman Leith-Hay to de László to arrange sittings.
