Dear Mr de Laszló,

There was no time for writing before I left, but I want to thank you for all your kindness & consideration in painting my portrait [2447] so quickly, & at times that I fear were most inconvenient.

However I do feel the result has justified the means – I have instructed my secretary

Miss I. [Harkness?] to send you the very small cheque for so large a picture, & she will be able to let you know about dispatching the picture safely. We have an [A.W.C.?] leaving on the 7th Dec – the Captain of the ship is a personal friend, so [that?] [is?] would be a good [illegible] to send off the picture if it were ready [by?] then. The next date would be Jan 4. We have passed thro’ a horrible storm, devastating to most of us miserable passengers & are 13 hours late; but today calmer

seas prevail & we have struggled up on deck, all looking yellow, revolting objects.

What fun that was sitting with “[illegible]”!
