As one of your constituents, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the proposed changes to the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill specifically the amendment that would require all public bodies to record individuals’ sex based solely on “biological sex” or “sex assigned at birth.”

This proposal is a direct attack on the rights, dignity, and safety of transgender, non-binary, and intersex people. It disregards the legal standing granted under the Gender Recognition Act and clashes with protections under the Equality Act, the Human Rights Act, and data protection laws such as the GDPR.

I must strongly point out that if implemented , this amendment would:

• Compel institutions such as the NHS, schools, and government agencies to ignore legal gender markers in favour of assigned-at-birth data
  
• Violate trans individuals’ right to privacy and increase the risk of discrimination and targeted harm
  
• Undermine public confidence in how sensitive data is collected and handled  particularly among already marginalised LGBTQ+ communities
  

This is not a benign policy shift it is a deeply politicised move that endangers lives and undermines basic principles of autonomy and respect.

I urge you to oppose this amendment and to take a public stand for the protection of everyone’s right to privacy and legal recognition, regardless of gender identity.
