Covid-19

Safety Plan

The Shelton High School Gaelhawks Robotics team is committed to keeping our students and mentors safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. We as a team understand how dangerous it can be, and as such, plan to keep our workplaces as clean and safe as possible. This is an unprecedented season, but a learning experience for all.

How it was compiled:

Our safety plan is a comprehensive list of rules to keep everybody safe, taken from the latest WHO, CDC, FIRST, CIAC and local DPH & BOE guidelines. Furthermore, we took inspiration from other FIRST® team’s plans*. Lots of care was taken in order to make sure the guidelines are safe, reasonable, and easy to follow.

The Guidelines:

In order to attend practices, work sessions, or in-person meetings, students and mentors need to have not come in contact with a COVID positive person within the last fourteen (14) days, show no symptoms related to COVID, accept the risks present with working near others, and students must be full in-person learners. The students and mentors must follow all the guidelines in order to be allowed to work in-person. These guidelines are:

  • Masks covering the nose and mouth must be worn at all times.
  • Must stand/sit a minimum of six (6) feet or two (2) meters away from others.
  • Students will be in a cohort of 8-10 people (as per CIAC rules).
  • When entering and exiting the facilities, students and mentors must use the sign-in/sign-out sheet (for contact tracing purposes).
  • Equipment, Tools, and Machinery must be properly sanitized between uses.
  • Hands must be washed/sanitized on arrival and departure.
  • Whenever possible, additional ventilation will be created.
  • If anyone comes in contact with a COVID positive person or is found to be COVID positive, we will follow the COVID reporting policy set forth by the school district.

  • Students and Mentors should bring their own technology devices if possible to minimize contact.
  • Cohorts will work in different locations to minimize contact between groups. Proposed locations are: SHS Lab 392, SHS Computer Lab 394, SHS Lab 395, SHS Library Media Center, SHS Classroom 393, Aux Gym
