Adopted! A5298269 Chance | Pit Bull/Labrador Retriever

A5298269 Chance is a playful 4-year-old toffee-and-white neutered male Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever mix whose former owner left him at the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 29th because they moved and did not make plans for him. Weighing 67 lbs, Chance is a funny, happy boy who likes to be with people and who is responsive to human guidance. He is a peppy boy who currently pulls on leash, so he may need some additional training to be an ideal walking companion. Chance was anxious (but not reactive) around other dogs when he was placed in the shelter’s playgroups, so the shelter thinks he should start out as an only dog until his new family gets to know him better. While out with our volunteers, Chance was curious about other dogs, but was easy to redirect. With his cheery and fun-loving personality, Chance will be an amazing best friend to an active person or family.

Adopted! A5338794 Venice | Pit Bull

A5338794 Venice is a confident 5-year-old charcoal and caramel brindle male Pit Bull who was surrendered by his former owner to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on December 3rd because he had another pet in the home and they didn’t get along.  Weighing 80 lbs, Venice is an athletic dog who enjoys exercise and needs to expend his energy so he can settle down and chill afterward. He’s required to be the only dog in the home and he needs all the basic training though he seems to already know sit. Venice pulls strongly on leash and may benefit from a harness like an “easy walk” since he strains his neck. Once he gets the hang of the leash he will be an ideal companion for long walks, jogging, or hiking. He’s a happy guy whose tail doesn’t stop wagging, which has caused a minor injury from repeatedly wagging against the kennel. His ‘happy tail’ is currently wrapped and will heal up nicely as long as he doesn’t re-injure it. Venice has a pretty unique brindle coat and will be an eye catching companion and cuddle buddy for the family committed to meeting his needs for exercise and training.

Urgent! A5342663 Bowzer | Pit Bull

A5342663 Bowzer is a fantastic 3-year-old rust-and-white neutered male Pit Bull whose former owner left him at the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on December 22nd due to landlord issues. Weighing 71 lbs, Bowzer is a happy, fun boy who savors human company. He impressed our volunteers with his skills. Bowzer knows how to sit, stay and shake when requested. Given his training, we assume he is housebroken too. Bowzer was a little shy during his first visit to the shelter’s playgroups, for now, we are recommending he be a solo dog or live with another calm dog who doesn’t want to get too rowdy. Bowzer has a nicely balanced energy level, he will want to join you on all of your adventures and come home to have a nice snooze. We think Bowzer is an all-around awesome dog. With his wonky ears and gorgeous green eyes, Bowzer is a serious head-turner, too. Bowzer will be a fantastic best friend in a fun-loving home.

Urgent! A5344161 Mark | Pit Bull/Labrador Retriever

A5344161 Mark is an affectionate 4-year-old black-and-white neutered male Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever mix who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 2nd because his owner moved and didn’t make plans for him. Weighing 80 lbs, Mark is a love machine. This boy loves to cuddle. He relishes being with people, and loves to make new friends. Mark knows how to walk on a leash and seems to be housebroken. He is a little chubby, so if getting in shape is one of your New Year’s resolutions, Mark would be a great partner to join you in that. For sure, Mark wants to be involved in whatever his human is up to. While out with volunteers, Mark displayed friendly, relaxed body language around all other dogs. However, the shelter is currently requiring he be placed as a solo dog or with female dogs only (although he has only been assessed with a single male dog, so this may change--please contact his Adoption Coordinator for updated information). Mark will be a delightful best buddy in any loving home eager to welcome to an attentive, fun companion.

URGENT! A5344225 Tony | Pit Bull

A5344225 Tony is a standout 2-year-old blue and white neutered male Pit Bull who was found as a stray in Hacienda Heights and brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 2nd. Weighing 68 lbs, Tony is an all around wonderful dog. Super loving and playful, he immediately won the heart of his handler with a quick connection. Tony behaves nicely around both big and small dogs, he has a blast in the Push/Pull playgroup with medium energy that’s not overwhelming. This fellow loves belly rubs and any kind of affection, he already knows sit so we are confident this eager to please boy will quickly learn whatever he needs to know to be a good housemate. He’s recommended for kids 8 years and older, we think he would be a terrific family dog.

Adopted! A5345038 Roxy  | Pit Bull

A5345038 Roxy is a personality-plus estimated 7-year-old grey female Pit Bull who was brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center after her owner passed away on January 6th. Weighing 53 lbs, Roxy is outgoing and gregarious, full of joy despite losing her longtime owner. Our volunteers describe her as having the personality of an aerobics instructor, happy, effusive and ready to inspire you to have fun. Roxy is a great moderate energy girl who loves belly rubs and meeting new friends, including calm large dogs in the Gentle/Dainty playgroup. She’s recommended for homes with older kids because her enthusiasm might overwhelm the little ones. Roxy kept her cool when other dogs were barking at her in the yard, and she was happy to show that she already knows how to sit on command and walk on leash, though she could use some practice. Roxy is a wonderful adult girl who will bring a lot of love and positive energy to her new home.

Adopted! A5345919 Chata  | Pit Bull

A5345919 Chata is a loveable 2-year-old grey-with-white spayed female Pit Bull mix whose former owner surrendered her to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 11th for personal reasons. Weighing 57 lbs, Chata is a gem of a dog. She is sweet, friendly, and eager to make her human happy. She is a sporty gal who would be delighted to join you for walks or hikes, and she has a blast playing with toys, too. Chata will benefit from some leash and general obedience training to help her be a model canine citizen. Chata was nervous during her first visit to the shelter’s playgroups (she ran away from the other dogs and tried to avoid them),  the shelter is recommending she be an only dog while her new family gets to know her. Our volunteer found Chata is very good at focusing on her human, which will help her tremendously both with training and in learning to be more comfortable around other dogs. Chata is a fun and affectionate girl who will fill her forever home with a lot of love.

Adopted! Status Pending! A5348198 Ana  | Pit Bull

A5348198 Ana is a spunky 5-year-old grey-with-white spayed female Pit Bull who was found as a stray in Azusa and brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 22nd. Weighing 64 lbs, Ana is agreeable, affectionate and fun. She walks respectably on leash and is easy to handle because she watches for cues from her human. She is eager to meet new people and also enjoys cuddle sessions with her human friends. Ana appears to be housebroken and knows how to sit on command. She should be a quick study if you want to teach her additional obedience skills as she is eager to please.  Plus, she finds treats motivating. Ana’s tail wags non-stop. She is so charming, sweet and will be a wonderful best friend in a loving forever home.

Adopted! A5348626 Splash  | Pit Bull Puppy

A5348626 Splash is a joyful 1-year-old grey-with-white male Pit Bull puppy who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 23rd as a stray from El Monte. Weighing 51 lbs, Splash is a happy and fun-loving guy. He enjoys going for walks and will be happy to accompany you for outings. He doles out kisses and loves to cuddle. Splash will benefit from leash training to help brush up his manners; he seems to be housebroken. Splash came to the shelter with multiple lacerations on his face and neck, which suggest he may have been attacked by another dog. He is healing well. In the shelter's playgroups, Splash was nervous around some of the other dogs, but tolerated them. Splash will be a wonderful best buddy in an active forever home.

Urgent! A5348673 Mona  | Pit Bull

A5348673 Mona is a bubbly 3-year-old grey-and-white female Pit Bull who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 24th from Baldwin Park. Weighing 60 lbs, Mona is a social butterfly who loves the company of people. She is a sporty dog who would be an ideal companion for walks, hikes, jogs, or other adventures. She will benefit from some additional leash training to help her polish her manners. Mona shows signs of being housebroken. With her can-do attitude, Mona will be a fun and affectionate best friend in an active household. While out with our volunteers, Mona’s body language around other dogs was relaxed and friendly. Because she was bossy with other dogs in the shelter’s playgroup, the shelter is asking that she be an only dog until her new family gets to know her better. Mona is a treasure who will be a fantastic addition to an active home.

Adopted! A5348698 Sweetheart  | Pit Bull/American Bulldog

A5348698 Sweetheart is a marvelous 2-year-old white-with-caramel spayed female Pit Bull and American Bulldog mix whose former owner left her at the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 24th because another pet in the home didn’t like her. Weighing 65 lbs, Sweetheart is a cuddly, cooperative, and cute dog who adores being with people and whose tail wags non-stop. She has a wonderful zest for life, and brightens up everywhere she goes. Sweetheart pulls a bit on leash when excited, but already knows how to sit on command; she is attentive and wants to please her human, so should learn additional skills quickly. Sweetheart likes to play with toys, and strikes us a great companion for walks, hikes, and other adventures. True to her name, Sweetheart is a precious pooch who will be a loving and loyal best friend in a fun-loving forever home.

Urgent! A4761803 Bella  | Pit Bull

A4761803 Bella is a cheery 2-year-old grey-with-white spayed female Pit Bull mix whose former owner brought her to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center for no known reason on January 26th. Weighing 90 lbs, Bella is a charming, kissy girl who loves to meet new people. Bella’s favorite activities include getting belly rubs, making new friends, cuddling, and exploring. She walks respectably on leash, but will benefit from some additional training in her forever home so she can be the ideal companion she wants to be on walks and other adventures. She is sporty, fun, and will definitely want to get out and about with you, which will also benefit her since she should lose a few pounds of extra weight. In the shelter’s playgroups, Bella has been most comfortable with calmer male dogs, so we think she would be fine with such a dog or as an only dog. With her warm, fun personality, Bella will be a loyal best friend in an active forever home.

Adopted! A5350021 Thimes  | Pit Bull/Labrador Retriever

A5350021 Thimes is a fun-loving 2-year-old copper-and-white female Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever mix who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 30th as a stray from El Monte. Weighing 65 lbs, Thimes savors human company and loves, loves, loves to be pet. When our volunteer knelt beside her, Thimes leaned against her and gave her a loving kiss. She walks beautifully on leash, may be housebroken, and knows how to sit on request.  Thimes was friendly with other dogs when out with our volunteers, but because she was initially defensive when she arrived at the shelter, the shelter is asking that she be an only dog as of this writing. Thimes will be so happy to chill out with you, or join you on walks or hikes. With her loving, happy personality, Thimes will bring a lot of joy to her forever home.

UHA Foster—Adopter Needed!

A4677808 Zuli | Pit Bull

My name is Zuli and I am looking for my forever home (hopefully around San Diego, where I am located!) I am about 18-months-old and I am a bluenose Pit Bull mix puppy. I am full of lots of puppy energy! I adore playing with other dogs and get very excited around playtime. I currently live with FIVE other doggies who are my best friends, and I am currently being trained how to control my energy level. When I go to my new home, I will need to continue to work with trainer so I can become the best canine citizen there is! I ride very well in the car and I am currently potty trained. I know how to listen to my foster mama and will only chew on appropriate toys. I walk very well on leash, and I also know many commands! I know "sit," "wait," "down," "leave it," "stay," and "easy." I also know "shake" and "roll over" (both ways!). I get along very well with older children and can respect younger children, but I probably shouldn't live with them since I might accidentally knock them over with my energy and enthusiasm.

Bowie is a 2.5 year old Australian Shepherd mix rescue named after David Bowie because he has one blue eye and one brown eye.  He has been in his home since he was 8 weeks old. He has a lot of energy and loves to go for walks more than anything else in the world.  He does not like being left alone for a long time.  He enjoys playing fetch and chewing on his toys.  He barks only when someone is approaching the house. Bowie loves spending time outdoors and even just laying in the sun out in the yard.  He is very sweet, but takes a minute or two to feel comfortable around new people.  He would do best in a house rather than an apartment. His coat has minimal shedding and is in good health. Owner is surrendering due to old age and illness.

Hanna is an incredibly loving female, spayed, caramel with White, approximately 1 year old Labrador and pit bull mix. Hanna was rescued by her foster mama, when she found Hanna starving without water or food and bought her from her owner, who would only surrender Hanna for a $250 fee.

Hanna and other dogs on the reservation would have to hike eight miles every day to beg food from tourists, and then hike the eight miles back to their home at night. Hanna was in the worst shape in the pack of dogs by far. Hanna was extremely sick when her foster mama took her home - she had pneumonia, worms, and was so infested with ticks and fleas that she was anemic. She was not being fed and her x-rays showed she had been trying to stay alive by eating rodents and rocks. Her ears were caked full of filth and she had double ear infections. After a couple of months of treatment, Hanna recovered completely and is healthy and super happy and she can hear much better!

It's amazing how much she has blossomed with just a little love, food and proper medical care. Hanna is great with school age kids, though she has not been introduced to toddlers. Hanna has an adorable loving personality. She is a terrific dog and really is the best! She has the softest coat. She's friendly and sweet, and walks well on leash. Hanna loves belly rubs and naps on her bed. She'll try to sleep in your lap too, if you let her (though she's a bit too big for that, she doesn't know it). Hanna has a medium level of energy, but is pretty excitable (as most dogs are) when left alone for too long. Even so, she calms down quickly once out and about.

Hanna is a total love bug - she is super affectionate, loves to cuddle and takes treats gently. She has basic training and can sit, lay down, go to her spot and walk on leash. She is learning other commands as well. Hanna loves to say hi to people when walking around town and she likes to lean on her foster mama when hanging out. Hanna does need to be socialized more with other dogs, and introduced to them slowly as she was bullied by the other dogs on the reservation where she lived. Having had to beg for food and being the smallest in the pack, she went without food most of the time. She is slowly learning that pups can be nice to her and that she will always have a full belly. She did just great at a recent Race for the Rescues walk with hundreds of dogs, so it's just about introducing her slowly and properly and respecting her feelings. She is going on lots of pack walks lately with other large dogs and learning how to be a carefree pup. She’s best as an only child for the time being due to this and also because she doesn’t want to share all your attention and belly rubs with a sibling!

Hanna will need a moderately active owner for walks/hikes. If she is left alone when her family is not around, it will need to be inside, as she can (and will) jump a 6 foot fence but she doesn't do that when her foster mom is home and hangs out on the patio lying in the sun.  Mainly she just wants to hang out and is perfectly behaved inside and out as well as completely housebroken.

Rescued! A5354236 Pickles | Domestic Shorthair Kitten

A5354236 Pickles is a fantastic 1-year-old black spayed female Domestic  Shorthair kitten who was surrendered by her former owner to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on February 19th for unknown reasons. Weighing 13 lbs, Pickles is a personality plus cat who makes friends quickly with new people. She bonded right away with her handler and loved every volunteer she met during the photo shoot. Pickles came in with abscesses on the side of her face and base of her tail. Both have been drained and she’s healing quite well. Calm, confident and loving, Pickles is ready for adventure and a lifetime of companionship with the lucky person or family who adopts her.
