Adopted! A3783423 Tinker Bell | Lhasa Apso/ Maltese

A3783423 Tinker Bell is a still-spunky 11-year-old apricot female Lhasa Apso and Maltese mix who came into the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from Covina on December 15th. Weighing 14 lbs, Tinker Bell is a friendly and playful dog with the energy of a puppy. She loves to spend time with people, has a great relaxed mode,  and is good around other dogs. Little Tinker Bell has a sweet disposition and loves to dance! She walks okay on leash, shows signs of housebreaking, and has a medium energy level. She has a small mass on a mammary gland, which should be examined by a veterinarian upon adoption (although we think it’s quite possible a vet will advise against removal). Tinker Bell is a fun and loving dog who will be a delightful companion in a cozy and caring home.

Adopted! A4454098 Dior | Maltese/Poodle

A4454098 Dior is an adorable 11-year-old white neutered male Maltese and Poodle mix who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 12th because his owners moved and made no provisions for him. Weighing 22 lbs, Dior could stand to lose a little weight and badly needs a spa day--he seems to have not been cared for too well in his former home. His bedraggled appearance will quickly be a thing of the past with a good grooming and some TLC, and his looks don’t get him down anyway. Dior is a very, very sweet boy who will roll right over and beg for a belly rub! Dior is a gentle dog who walks well on leash and gets along well with other dogs. He is a little tentative at first because he has no idea why he’s in the shelter, but he quickly looks to people for love and kindness. Dior is a nice older gentleman who will fit right into any home that gives him to the love and care he deserves as an indoor pet and companion. Will you be the one to give him a second chance at a happy life?

Urgent! A5102103 Carla | Pit Bull/Bullmastiff

A5102103 Carla is a marvelous 4-year-old fawn-with-black female Pit Bull and Bullmastiff mix who was found in Baldwin Park and brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on August 18th. Weighing 56 lbs, Carla has a big, warm smile that reflects her loving, happy personality. She savors human company, and when introduced to other dogs, she drops into a friendly play bow. With her wonderfully soft coat, Carla is a delight to pet, and she is grateful for the attention. She walks respectably on leash and already knows how to sit and lie down on command. We think you could teach this smart girl to fly to the moon if you rewarded her with turkey! It’s no surprise she sailed through her shelter-administered temperament test, even though she did not receive one until after almost two full months of stressful kenneling, a true testament to her amazing disposition. Carla is just a sweet, wonderful gal, and she will be a wonderful addition to any fun-loving forever home.

New! A5102960 Samson | Pit Bull/Mastiff

A5102960 Samson is a fun-loving 1½-year-old black-and-white neutered male Pit Bull and Mastiff mix whose owner surrendered him to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center, saying Samson was too much responsibility, on November 6th. Weighing 60 lbs, Samson is a good-natured dog who savors human companionship. He has a lot of puppy energy, and has an adorably goofy disposition. Samson has plenty of pep in his step for walks or hikes, but also knows when to settle down. He loves to cuddle and be petted by people, and his friendly attitude extends to other dogs--he wants to play with every pooch he meets and loves being part of the shelter’s playgroups. He shows signs of housebreaking and is eager to please, so he should learn obedience skills quickly. Samson’s coat is quite dry, but with some easy TLC (we think he is going to love getting bathed!) and a good diet, he will likely be in top form in no time. Samson is a plug-and-play dog who will be a fantastic new companion and indoor pet for any active individual or family looking for a happy, friendly best friend.

Urgent! A5107168 Glory | Pit Bull

A5107168 Glory is a fabulous 1-year-old chocolate-and-white male Pit Bull mix who came in to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from El Monte on September 8th. Weighing 48 lbs, Glory has a wonderfully balanced energy. He wants to go out for walks and is going to enjoy exercise, but when he comes home he is going to just be your cuddle buddy and relax at your feet. He needs a bit of leash training, but shows signs of being housebroken and is eager to please his handler. With his unique auburn and chocolate coloring, it’s a pleasure to admire and pet him-- and this boy really loves to be petted! He passed his shelter-administered temperament test with flying colors, which includes interaction with other dogs. This fabulous boy is going to be great with any active individual or family as an indoor dog and he’ll give you as much love back as you give to him -- such a sweet boy!

New! A5110428 Princess | German Shepherd/ Husky

A5110428 Princess is a stunning 3-year-old white spayed female German Shepherd and Siberian Husky mix who came to Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray on November 2nd. Weighing 56 lbs, Princess enjoys human company and loves to be petted--and with her luscious coat, it’s a delight to cuddle with her. She walks respectably on leash but will benefit from some extra training to become a perfect walking partner. Princess is eager to join you on adventures like walks, hikes, or even just running errands. Perhaps a reflection of her Husky heritage, she enjoys “talking” with you with adorable vocalizations--and she’s a great listener, too! Princess is a smart, focused dog who will do best as part of a household that knows she’s a working dog who needs to be kept active and busy. Princess is a beautiful, loving, and intelligent girl who will be an amazing indoor pet and companion for an active individual or family.

Urgent! A5110890 Eve | Pit Bull

A5110890 Eve is a personality-plus 7-year-old fawn female Pit Bull mix who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on September 14th because her family moved and made no provisions for her. Weighing 70 lbs, Eve is your best new hiking buddy and lap-warmer! A volunteer favorite, Eve is a great big bundle of love who is quick to cuddle up with everyone she meets. She seems to be housebroken and walks okay on leash but could use some polishing. This lovely girl has white markings on her soft coat, including little white toe tips. She’s playful, silly, and sweet as can be, with an endearingly goofy personality. Not surprisingly, she sailed through her shelter-administered temperament test. Eve is a lovely, well-socialized dog who will be a wonderful addition to any home, including one with children old enough to play with a large dog.

New! A5111278 Jasper | American Bulldog

A5111278 Jasper is a a joyful, playful  3-year-old white-with-caramel neutered male American Bulldog mix who entered the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from Covina  on September 15th. Weighing 62 lbs, Jasper loves to play with people and other dogs--he is a favorite in the shelter’s playgroups. He has a sweet disposition and loves to kiss everyone he encounters! Not surprisingly, he sailed through his shelter-administered temperament test, a true testament to his outstanding disposition because he was not tested until after four months (!) of stressful kenneling (solitary confinement, really). Jasper knows how to sit on command and how to walk on leash, but he’s so excited to be out that he pulls and just wants to (understandably) expend all his pent-up energy! We think he’ll benefit from a brush-up on his skills once he’s out; he lives to please, so we think he will be a fast learner. With his lovable and happy personality, we think Jasper would be a great friend to kids, too. Jasper is a really good boy who will be a perfect indoor family dog in any loving household.

Urgent! A5112589 Herman | Pit Bull/German Shepherd

A5112589 Herman is a playful 3-year-old tricolor (taupe, rust, black) neutered male Pit Bull and German Shepherd mix who was found as a stray in Covina and brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on September 19th. Weighing 60 lbs, Herman has a goofy silliness--when we let him off leash in the play area, he loves to run around doing the zoomies. On leash, he has respectable manners and knows how to sit on command; we recommend additional training to help Herman feel like he has clear expectations. Given his athleticism, Herman would be an ideal companion for hikes or running--and we know he will also savor cuddling up with you at night. Herman sailed through his shelter-administered temperament test, which comes as no surprise given what a fun, gentle, happy, and loving boy he is. Herman will be a fantastic best friend as an indoor companion in an active household that appreciates a good laugh.

New! A5122918 Bella | Pit Bull

A5122918 Bella is a delightful 4-year-old fawn spayed female Pit Bull whose owners surrendered her to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on October 19th (along with her best friend Honey, who was fortunate enough to get transferred to the Pasadena Humane Society and was adopted from there in late December) because they were moving and not taking their pets along. Weighing 59 lbs, Bella is just a gem. She’s terrific on leash, seems to be housebroken, and is gentle and friendly with people and other dogs alike. She’s a sweet and outgoing pup who is a wonderful participant in the shelter’s playgroups. She reassures insecure or uncertain dogs, models good play manners for them, and gets them to join in the fun! Not surprisingly, Bella sailed through her shelter-administered temperament test. Bella is a big, beautiful girl with an athletic build. She does have a pendulous, squishy mass hanging from her rear leg and a tiny, similar mass on her underside, both of which should be evaluated by an outside vet. Bella is a delightful family dog who will do great as an indoor pet in just about any setting! Because of her history in a multi-dog household and her wonderful disposition toward other dogs, we think she may be a great companion for a dog already in the home.

New! A5124114 Dorothy | Pit Bull/Labrador Retriever

A5124114 Dorothy is a friendly 8-year-old female caramel-and-white Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever mix who came into the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from Azusa on October 24th. Weighing 67 lbs, Dorothy is a total lovebug! She is a born lap dog whose personal mantra is “Born to Cuddle.” Dorothy participates in the shelter’s playgroups, where she appreciates the company of other calm, relaxed dogs.  Of course, Dorothy passed her shelter-administered temperament test with flying colors! She walks okay on leash, shows signs of housebreaking, and knows how to sit on command. We consistently find you CAN teach old dogs new tricks, and we think Dorothy would be happy to learn some if you’d like to teach her. Dorothy seems to have some hearing loss and a growth on her rear area that will need an evaluation from an outside vet. Dorothy is an all-around people pleaser who will fit right into a loving and caring home as a cherished indoor companion.

Urgent! A5129341 Mavis | Pit Bull

A5129341 Mavis is a darling 6-year-old blue-and-white female Pit Bull who entered the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on November 11th as a stray (city unknown). Weighing 55 lbs, Mavis walks nicely on leash, shows signs of being housebroken, has a medium energy level, and had no trouble passing her shelter-administered temperament test. She’s a gregarious girl and knows how to socialize with others, which is readily apparent from her behavior in the playgroups (always same-size dogs) the shelter now holds. She’s playful and friendly with other dogs her size (and seemed to have no reaction to small dogs at the Glamour Shoot), and she adores leaning on her person or standing up and hugging their hips with her front legs. She’s a pleasing dog, with great traits. We think she’ll be a pop-in gem as an indoor pet and companion for any individual or family that loves the big beauties.

New! A5131146 Chango | Rottweiler

A5131146 Chango is a noble and gentle 6-year-old black-and-brown male Rottweiler whose owner surrendered him without explanation to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on November 18th. Weighing 65 lbs, Chango is a handsome boy who is feeling  a bit blue about being confined to his kennel since mid-November (who wouldn’t be?), but he brightens right up with the slightest attention paid to him through the bars. Given that he’s what the Los Angeles County shelter system calls a “dominant breed,” he has to be temperament tested before he can be taken out of his kennel for playgroups or interaction with people. He is still waiting for his test, so all we know of him is through the bars, and it’s all positive. If a prospective adopter comes to the shelter and expresses an interest in him, that will expedite his test. Chango takes treats gently and looks like he is probably trained. He’s calm, wants to be with people, is attentive to people, and is just a loving and sweet-natured boy. He takes treats gently, and he’s breaking lots of volunteers’ hearts as he sits cooped up and untouchable. We’re hoping an adopter or rescuer will come forward and show interest in him at the front office so that he gets on the list to be temperament tested. That’s the only way we can network him and he can get the hands-on attention he needs. Free Chango!!!

Rescued by Delaney’s Dogs! A5131560 Ginger | German Shepherd

A5131560 Ginger is a bubbly and beautiful 3-year-old tricolor (tan, black, white) spayed female German Shepherd whose owner surrendered her to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center without giving a reason on November 20th. Weighing 55 lbs, Ginger has been deemed Rescue Only (with an indemnity waiver) by the shelter because of her behavior during a playgroup with other dogs. Other sessions of the playgroup and a meet-and-greet were different, but the label stands. For one outing, Ginger was puppyish when a volunteer approached her in her kennel to be leashed and taken out—she jumped up playfully and wiggled with eagerness. Once on leash, she walked well and, upon entering the playgroup yard, met Bella (a greeter dog, A5122918), exchanged sniffs, and went exploring rather than play. She also checked back in with her handler at various times. She’s intelligent and very much a working dog, so she needs a job! She also needs a chance to calm down outside the shelter in a secure and loving environment in order for anyone to see her true personality and behavior. We’re hoping that a rescue will step forward to claim this young, curious beauty so that she can become the indoor pet and companion she’s meant toi be.

Adopted! A5135212 Akila | German Shepherd

A5135212 Akila is a stunning 4-year-old brown-and-black spayed female German Shepherd who came in to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from Duarte on December 6th. Weighing 68 lbs, Akila is a gentle, mellow girl. She is also a confident girl who is non-reactive to other dogs and very good on leash. Akila loves people, is very attentive to her handler, and is curious about her surroundings. And despite being in the chaotic shelter, she doesn’t appear stressed or nervous. This is one gorgeous, calm, affectionate girl who will make a perfect indoor pet and star-quality family dog in any household.

Rescued! A5135724 Skylee | German Shepherd/ Labrador Retriever

A5135724 Skylee is a personality-plus 6-year-old gold-and-black female German Shepherd and Labrador Retriever mix whose owner surrendered her to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on December 8th because, he said, he had landlord problems. Weighing 74 lbs, Skylee is the quintessential big, sweet, family dog. She’s pretty good on leash, but, because of her strength, will benefit from some additional leash training to make her a practiced walking partner. Skylee shows signs of housebreaking, has a medium energy level, shows a friendly and happy interest in other dogs, and knows how to sit and shake on command, which she does with what looks like joy. She gives kisses, too, is a leaner, and sits down the second you start petting her chest—the better to allow you to do a thorough job of it. She came out of her kennel very nicely, quickly relaxed with her handler, and went back into her kennel without one complaint! All in all, she is a perfect family dog, one who’ll do well, we think, as an indoor pet and companion in an active household eager to make a strong but gentle, obedient, good-natured girl their very own.

Urgent! A5135854 Hallow | Irish Wolfhound/Griffon Puppy

A5135854 Hallow is an eager-to-please 1-year-old Irish Wolfhound and Griffon mix puppy whose owner left him at the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on December 9th without giving a reason. Weighing 40 lbs, Hallow walks okay on leash, appears to be housebroken, has a medium energy level, responds best to slow approaches, and communicates by giving a deep rumble that surprised his handler (and everyone else) no end! He grew playful and affectionate once he figured out his handler was trustable, and he was eager to learn what she expected from him and to do it. Hallow appears to be insecure and fearful, behaviors we often see in young dogs who are put into the chaotic shelter environment. We think this lovable guy, with his adorable curl-over tail and striking, scruffy looks, might do best as an indoor pet and buddy in a household where he’s the only dog and gets the training he needs to be confident and secure.

Urgent! A5135904 Otis | Fox Hound/Pointer

A5135904 Otis is a spectacular and friendly 5-year-old neutered male Fox Hound and Pointer mix whose owner left him, saying he was “animal aggressive,” at the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on December 9th. Weighing 42 lbs, Otis is a dream dog, and we have no idea what “animal” he showed aggression toward or what the previous owner thought constituted aggression. Otis is great on leash, shows definite signs of being house trained, has a medium energy level, and showed us that he knows how to sit on command. He appeared to be fine in the presence of other dogs and enjoyed the people attention and treats he got at the Glamour Shoot — and (great story!) he was magnificent when, later, two of us encountered him sauntering up to the door to the front office! He’d taken advantage of an open back door on his kennel in the furthest-back building, walking up a kennel row past lots of most likely barking dogs and headed for goodness knows where! He wagged his tail when we greeted him and came right up to us, letting us hold and leash him and take him back to his kennel! We have to think this guy will be a wonderful indoor pet and buddy for any household where he’s loved and gets exercise and attention.

In Shelter Foster Care! A5136018 Andrew | Yorkshire Terrier/Papillon puppy

A5136018 Andrew is an adorable 1-year-old gray-and-white male Yorkshire Terrier and Papillon mix puppy who came in to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from La Puente on December 10th. Weighing 11 lbs, Andrew is super cute! He has that puppy energy level and sweetness and needs all the puppy training basics. He’s fine with other dogs, supper happy and friendly and loves food. This delightful little boy is absolutely irresistible - look at those ears! He’ll be a terrific lifelong companion for any individual or family who wants a perfect, playful indoor dog and go-anywhere with you companion.

Adopted! A5136779 Dot | Pit Bull

A5136779 Dot is a scrumptious 2-year-old blue-and-white spayed female Pit Bull who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on December 13th as an owner surrender with no reason given. Weighing 44 lbs, Dot is a loving, exuberant dog who adores everyone, human and dog alike. Sweet Dot passed her temperament test with flying colors and is a regular in the shelter’s playgroups, where she has a blast romping with other medium and large dogs. She doesn’t seem to have had much formal training and pulls a bit on leash; Dot needs some guidance on basic manners, but she is eager to please and we think will learn quickly. Dot is super-friendly and shows signs of housebreaking, so she’s ready to go home today and start learning everything else she needs to know. Dot will be a great indoor dog for an active household looking for a fun companion to make a cherished part of the family.

Urgent! A5138979 Kona | Labrador Retriever Mix

A5138979 Kona is a loving 12-year-old caramel-with-white female Labrador Retriever mix whose owners surrendered her to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on Christmas for no known reason. Weighing 61 lbs, Kona is a heartbreaker. Her handler fell in love with her as soon as she was out of her kennel, as did everyone that saw her. Kona is super-friendly and can sit and shake on command.  She is interested in other dogs and gets chatty when she sees them -- she wants to meet them!  When she was left at the shelter she had an open wound and is now recovering from surgery. She will need a vet check once she is adopted as a follow-up and possibly a second set of vaccinations (see shelter staff/vet).  Kona has a medium level of energy and certainly doesn’t act her age!  Spunky and curious and constantly smiling, this girl is the best. She loves, loves, loves being scratched and is a happy camper if you let her wiggle up into your lap and give you her belly to scratch. Kona is one of those dogs that likes to be near you and lean up against you if you’re standing nearby or holding her leash. This girl is the quintessential family dog — she deserves to live the rest of her years hanging out and getting belly rubs as an indoor dog with a family or individual that will enjoy her loyalty and love her right back.

Adopted! A5139993 Little Pape | Silky Terrier

A5139993 Little Pape is a family-ready 5-year-old gray-and-tan neutered male Silky Terrier who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from El Monte on December 31st. Weighing 13 lbs, Little Pape is a friendly guy who takes treats gently and has beautiful silky fur (which, by all accounts, should not shed). He walks well on leash, shows signs of housebreaking, seems to be comfortable being groomed (he was a huge mess when he came into the shelter and obviously was groomed by a volunteer there), and gets along swimmingly with other dogs (he showed no fear when a large dog came to have a look at him). However, he seems to prefer the company of people to dogs--he just loves to be petted and will jump into your lap if he gets the chance! We think this plug-and-play fellow is a born lapdog who will be a great new best friend and indoor pet for any individual or family.

In Shelter Foster Care!  A5139384 Coby | Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Puppy

A5139384 Coby is an effervescent 3-month-old cream male Labrador Retriever and Pit Bull mix puppy who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on December 27th as an owner surrender because they could not handle his medical issues.  Weighing 18 lbs, Coby is absolutely puppylicious, silly, happy, friendly, and a bundle of youthful energy. He just has a case of demodectic mange (Demodex) which requires a medical waiver for adoption, but this condition is easily treated and he will be a handsome, show-stopper of a guy once he’s past it. Since he’s so young we couldn’t put him on the ground to see how he does on leash, but he will no doubt need all his puppy basic training. Coby is a wonderful puppy who will be a delightful companion in a home where he will get the medical care, training, exercise, and affection he needs to grow into someone’s very best forever friend.

New! A5140033 Teddy | Pit Bull/Labrador Retriever Puppy

A5140033 Teddy is a winning 1-year-old gold male Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever mix puppy who came into the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from El Monte on January 1st. Weighing 67 lbs, Teddy is the kind of dog we consider a homerun. Teddy wants to snuggle with everyone he meets, and he makes all of our volunteers smile with his big grin and wagging tail. He did well on his shelter-administered temperament test, walks okay on leash, likes other dogs, shows signs of housebreaking, has a medium energy, and has an all-around great disposition. Teddy seems to have spent most of his short life being neglected outdoors--he has calluses and fly-strikes, which are usually indicators of living outdoors. With a little TLC--most importantly, living as an indoor pet--he is going to look and feel great. Teddy shows all the signs of being easy to train--he loves treats and takes them gently. We think he will love to join you for walks, hikes, and, of course, cuddle sessions. Teddy will be an excellent companion for any family or individual eager to provide the training, exercise, and affection a large-breed puppy needs.

Adopted! A5140354 Mabel | Pit Bull Puppy

A5140354 Mabel is a tender and super-loving 10-month-old gray-and-white female Pit Bull puppy who came into the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from La Puente on January 2nd. Weighing 56 lbs, Mabel is a total lovebug who enjoys people—she stopped to greet everyone she met in the yard, and she made her handler’s day by gently jumping up to hug her around the waist. It’s obvious that Mabel savors human attention and that she especially appreciates good petting--as long as you pet her, her tail keeps on wagging! This beautiful girl has a friendly attitude toward other dogs, too. Mabel has respectable leash manners, but mostly seems to be a blank slate for training, so will benefit from a basic obedience course in her new home. Mabel will be a perfect best friend and indoor companion in an active household.

New! A5140404 Dexter | Basenji/Chihuahua Puppy

A5140404 Dexter is a charming 9-month-old brindle-and-white neutered male Basenji and Chihuahua mix puppy who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from Baldwin Park on January 3rd. Weighing 12 lbs, Dexter is full of puppy joy and enthusiasm! Although he’s a little timid when in his kennel, he’s eager to explore, play, and make friends as soon as he comes prancing on out with his handler. Like most puppies, he seems to be a blank slate for training, but he’s attentive and agreeable and should be easy to train, especially because he’s highly treat motivated. Dexter is interested in other dogs but loves people most of all. He’ll stand up on his hind legs to get a better look at his new friends! He does have an oddly shaped forepaw, but it seems to cause him no pain or problems. Dexter is just an all-around great puppy with a fabulous disposition who will make a perfect indoor pet and family companion.

Adopted! A5140466 Matilda | Labrador Retriever/Collie

A5140466 Matilda is a loving 10-year-old merled-red female Labrador Retriever and Collie mix whose owners left her at the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 3rd because, they said, they had no time for her. Weighing 51 lbs, Matilda is a snuggly teddy bear of a dog who enjoys being with people and receiving pets and affection. She walks well on leash, shows signs of housebreaking, is super-friendly with other dogs, and knows the sit and stay commands (and possibly more!). She currently has some thickened skin on her bum and tail, for which the shelter is requiring a health waiver. She is friendly, cuddly, sweet, and a perfect companion and indoor pet for that discerning individual or family who understands the joys of an older, move-in-ready, loving companion.

Rescued! A5141098 Willie Boy | Lhasa Apso Mix

A5141098 Willie Boy is a people-pleasing 3-year-old charcoal-and-white neutered male Lhasa Apso mix who came into the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray on January 6th. Weighing 16 lbs, Willie Boy is a sweetheart who let us know how happy he was to be out and about and making friends. He walks just fine on leash, shows signs of housebreaking, and gets along with his kennel mate; he also did fine with the dogs he met in the yard. But it’s obvious that he prefers to spend his time with people and loves to be carried around like royalty! He has a darling underbite, as well as a beautiful coat, which will be luxurious once he has a spa day. Willie Boy has two very light cherry eyes, which can be fixed at a vet after adoption. Willie Boy will make a darling new best friend and indoor pet for any individual or family.

New! A5141172 Adele | Chihuahua

A5141172 Adele is a demure 2-year-old blonde female Chihuahua who came into the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from La Puente on January 6th. Weighing 8 lbs, Adele is a sweet girl who is uncomfortable in the shelter, but who has lovely manners nonetheless. She’s good on leash and gets along with other dogs her size (she had a kennel mate, and they were fine together, but she’s now alone). Adele is shy and sometimes trembles when first approached, but she responds to a gentle, gradual style and then shows her true, loving nature. This dainty girl will be a wonderful indoor pet and companion for any home (as long any children are old enough to respect her small size). This small princess doesn’t belong in the shelter--she belongs in your arms!

Reunited With Owner! A5141639 Rocko | Boxer/Pit Bull Puppy

A5141639 Rocko is a bodacious 9-month-old caramel-and-white male Boxer, Pit Bull, and German Shepherd mix puppy whose owners surrendered him to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 8th because, they said, they did not have time for him. Weighing 53 lbs, Rocko is a happy and kissy puppy who loves human attention. He could do with some leash training—as is true for so many young pups—but he already shows signs of housebreaking and knows how to sit and clearly understands what “no” means! Rocko has a puppy energy and would play with other dogs all day if he could. He takes treats gently, has a beautiful silky coat, and is, in our minds, a perfect family dog. Rocko will be a great new addition as an indoor companion for any active household.

New! A5141928 Francis | Terrier/Poodle Puppy

A5141928 Francis is a puppylicious 1-year-old male Terrier and Poodle mix (aka Terripoo) puppy who entered the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from Baldwin Park on January 9th. Weighing 8 lbs, Francis has all the enthusiasm and sparkle you expect from a puppy. He is quite vocal when in his kennel, but don’t let that discourage you: Francis is a gem once he out of the noisy kennel building. He walks nicely on leash, is good with other dogs, and is a curious and happy boy. Like all puppies, he’ll benefit from puppy basics training to make him a good canine citizen and grow his confidence, since he can act a bit alarmed when he’s frightened (something that is likely to improve just from being out of the shelter, but obedience work also is always a good idea for puppies). Adorable Francis, who has a striking resemblance to an Ewok, will likely be a fantastic indoor companion and family dog for any loving household wanting their very own darling puppy.

New! A5142098 Princess | Chihuahua Puppy

A5142098 Princess is a precious 1-year-old female butterscotch-with-white Chihuahua puppy whose owner surrendered her, giving no reason why, to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on January 10th. Weighing 8 lbs, Princess is scared in the noisy and intimidating shelter environment (and who can blame her for that?), but she readily warms up and tries not to be shy when a friendly handler comes to get her. She has a sweet disposition, appears more than ready to bond with a good human, and will, we assume, definitely come out of her shell once she is in a loving and safe home. She walks fine on leash and enjoys the company of her kennel mate. Beautiful Princess will be a perfect new addition as a beloved indoor pet and companion for any household (including those with children old enough to respect her tiny size) for many years to come!

UHA Foster—Adopter Needed!

A4677808 Zuli | Pit Bull Mix

My name is Zuli and I am looking for my forever home (hopefully around San Diego, where I am located!) I am about 18-months-old and I am a bluenose Pit Bull mix puppy. I am full of lots of puppy energy! I adore playing with other dogs and get very excited around playtime. I currently live with FIVE other doggies who are my best friends, and I am currently being trained how to control my energy level. When I go to my new home, I will need to continue to work with trainer so I can become the best canine citizen there is! I ride very well in the car and I am currently potty trained. I know how to listen to my foster mama and will only chew on appropriate toys. I walk very well on leash, and I also know many commands! I know "sit," "wait," "down," "leave it," "stay," and "easy." I also know "shake" and "roll over" (both ways!). I get along very well with older children and can respect younger children, but I probably shouldn't live with them since I might accidentally knock them over with my energy and enthusiasm.

Pee Wee GSD.jpg

Fostered—Adopter Needed!

A4715405 Pee Wee | Chihuahua

Pee Wee is a UHA alum, rescued from the Baldwin Park shelter 5 weeks after his owner surrendered him through no fault of his own. He was understandably overwhelmed and a little shy at the shelter, but to UHA volunteers who have taken him out for walks and playtime, Pee Wee is just adorable, in looks and in spirit. So when Pee Wee became the longest small breed resident at the shelter, we just had to make sure this little darling was safe and got him out! If his waggly tail and joyful adorableness don’t make you smile and melt with love, then nothing will!

Pee Wee is an adorable fawn/brindle 5-year-old neutered male Chihuahua mix with heart-melting hazel eyes. Weighing 8 lbs, Pee Wee lives up to his name - he is so small and cute! He has a lovely calm, medium energy - he enjoys being held or cuddling up next to his human while watching TV or taking a nap - a total lapdog. His tail won't stop wagging when he gets tummy rubs (check out his adorable videos).  Pee Wee always got along with different kennel mates while at the shelter, and in his foster's home, Pee Wee adjusted seamlessly to his foster dog siblings, becoming instant buddies to other small dogs. He knows his manners around other dogs, he doesn't fight over food or toys, though he does enjoy his meal times and treats, and playing with stuffed toys or chasing squeaky tennis balls.

Be sure to check out Pee Wee’s photos and videos.  To meet this sweet boy, contact his foster mom, julianadee@yahoo.com.

Weighing 11 lbs, Ernie is a staff and volunteer favorite for both his winning personality and striking good looks. Ernie loves affection and is a total love bug with people. Handsome Ernie has the most gorgeous green eyes, long white whiskers and an adorable red nose. He is ready to go home today to share snuggles on warm cozy nights with a special person or family.

Adopted! A5138245 Sherlock | Turkish Van Mix

A5138245 Sherlock is a fabulous 7-year-old white-with-black male Turkish Van Mix who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on December 20th after being found as a stray in El Monte. Weighing 7 lbs, Sherlock is mostly white with unique black patch markings that look like huge eyebrows and a reddish black plume of a tail. He seems to have been on his own on the streets for a while and after this rough patch he could use a bath or kitty-spa day to return to his natural glamorous glory. Sherlock’s confident personality seems mellow, friendly, and gentle, and he’s unphased in the noisy shelter environment that can be scary for less self-assured cats.

Rescued! A5139329 Peyton | Domestic Shorthair

A5139329 Peyton is a dainty 10-year-old calico spayed female shorthair cat who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on December 27th as a stray from West Covina. Weighing 8 lbs, Peyton is currently a lady in distress -- her beautiful fur is terribly matted, which is both upsetting and uncomfortable for her,  and she needs a trip to the kitty spa. In spite of her woebegone state, Peyton has a heart of gold! She is a sweet, affectionate, trusting girl who craves human affection and gently meows to greet her new friends. She is quick to purr and cuddle--and once she’s cleaned up, she’ll be a stunner with her multicolored coat and pretty white bib. Peyton deserves a home where she is cozy and cared for. She’ll repay your love 100-fold.

New! A5140316 Bert | Domestic Shorthair

A5140316 Bert is a comical  3-year-old black-and-white male cat  who entered the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from El Monte on January 2nd. Weighing 10 lbs, Bert is a real character! This big handsome boy wants to cuddle and isn’t shy about letting his new friends know. He’ll reach out from his kennel and meow to say hi. We had a wonderful time snuggling him during his glamour shot. Bert’s a handsome guy as well, with black “cow spots” on his white coat and wide amber eyes. If you want a cat who will settle right in on the couch and be your best buddy, Bert’s your man! We do recommend that he might do best with adults or older kids who can respect his cues, because when he’s had enough handling, he’ll let you know.

A5140942 Jimmy is a debonair 3-year-old gray tabby neutered male cat who came into the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray from Baldwin Park on January 5th. Weighing 13 lbs, Jimmy is scared to death in the shelter--he has no idea why he’s here and he knows he belongs in a home! In spite of the setting, he’s a sweet and friendly cat who clearly will be a great pet. And he’s a handsome boy, with striking white eyeliner, a strawberry-red nose, and gorgeous “house tiger” coat. Jimmy needs to get out of the shelter and into a loving home. His lucky new family will be rewarded with a lifetime of love.

Adopted! A5141948 Natalie | Domestic Shorthair Kitten

A5141948 Natalie is a charming 9-month-old calico female kitten who came into the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center, along with her brother, Jeph [A5141949], as a stray from La Puente on January 9th. Weighing 6 lbs and expected to grow just a few more lbs as she matures, Natalie is a real beauty with a pumpkin blaze on her nose and a white bib and boots. She’s scared to find herself in the shelter--she and her brother were both wearing collars when they were found, so they are clearly used to being in a safe home and are confused by what has happened. Still, she is entirely cooperative. Natalie is a gentle girl who will warm up in a safe and loving environment. Take her home by herself or bring her brother along for double fun--two kittens can keep each other entertained and make a beautiful pair.

New! A5141949 Jeph | Domestic Shorthair Kitten

Weighing 7 lbs, Jeph is a handsome guy who comes ready to party in his own tuxedo! Sadly, he’s terrified in the shelter--he knows he belongs in a safe and loving home. Jeph and his sister both came in to the shelter wearing collars, so they’re used to being somebody’s babies. Jeph will make a wonderful pet for any family or individual. He can be adopted on his own or as a pair with his sister. Two kittens are twice as much fun!
