1/ Get in = To enter a car ( only use with cars)

Example

I get in my brother’s car

2/ Get on = To enter a bus, plane, train ( only use with transportation)

Example

He gets on the plane.

3/ Get out of = To exist a car

Example:

Mary got out of  her car.

4/ Get off = To exit a bus, plane or train

Example:

I got off the plane in a hurry.

5/ For the time being = At this moment in time

Example:

For the time being I will stay in California. When  I make enough money, I am going to move to New York.

6/ Pick up = To get someone

Example:

We picked up our brother at the airport.

7/ At first = In the beginning

Example:

At first I did not like the USA. Now I love it.

8/ Dress up= to dress in a formal way ( weddings, job interviews etc)

Example:

I have to dress up for Marios’ wedding.

9/ As usual = 1/Something that happens frequently.  

                      2/ Someone does something frequently

Examples:

As usual here in London, we see rain all the time.

As usual Tim is always late for his bus.

10/ To find out = to look for something or someone

Examples:

I need to find out if my brother will be going to the party.

11/ Get along = Having a good relationship with someone

Examples:

I get along with my brother.

12/ All along =  From the beginning

Example:

I knew all along that it was not a good idea to visit New York. It is always noisy.

13/ To tire out = To feel exhausted

Example:

I am so tired out from running around the lake.

14/ Make up your mind = To make a decision

Example:

You need to make up your mind about buying the house.

15/ To call on =  Ask a person in class to participate

Example:

The teacher called on me to give him an answer for the math problem.

16/ Never mind = To ignore something

I told my sister, “ never mind” when I asked her three times if she wanted me to buy her something at the mall, but she was not listening to me.

17/ Talk over = To discuss something

Example:

My husband and I talked over the possibility of buying a house.

18/ To make a difference = To have an effect on something or someone

Example:

My mom made a difference in my life. She always believed in me.

19/ To take part in = To participate in an activity

Example:

I like taking part in sports in my school.

20/ To think over = To think about something

Example:

I will think over the offer he made me about staying in my job.

21/ To take place = The location of an event

Example:

The concert will take place at Madison Square Garden.

22/ To get over = Top recover from something or someone

Example:

I am trying to get over my divorce.
