How to Make a Fortune Teller

Have you ever wanted to ‘predict the future’? If you like origami and crazy games, you would love a fortune teller. Flip and fold the paper to reveal your future. This hands on fate finder is fun for elementary students of all ages. You never know what’s going to happen next!

Materials:

Directions:

  1. Fold your paper in half making a rectangle. Unfold and turn so you can make another rectangle in the opposite direction. Unfold.

  2. Take the paper and use the creases to fold all the corners into the middle making a smaller square

  3. Flip it over to the opposite side and repeat step 2. The square will be even smaller now.

  1. Fold the square in half making a rectangle keeping the square shaped flaps on the outside.

  2. Unfold the last fold and turn a quarter turn in either direction and repeat the last step.

  3. Place the rectangle on desk with the open part of the square flaps facing you. Write a different color name on each square flap. Flip and repeat.
            *You want to use 4 color names that have a different amount of letters.
            red, blue, yellow, green

  4. Unfold the last fold and flip over so that the triangles are face up.

  5. Use different numbers between 1 and 15 to label each small triangle. Have the triangle flap of the small triangles you are writing on pointing toward you as you write the two numbers. Turn a quarter turn after writing the two numbers. Repeat this process until all eight small triangles have numbers on them.

  1. Leaving the fortune teller on your desk, flip open the triangle flaps you just wrote the numbers on and you have a larger square. Do not turn over.

  2. Use a ruler to trace the crease lines from one corner to the other. You will draw 2 lines crossing.

  4. Fill in the eight outlined triangles with your own fortunes. Here are a few to get you started.
            *You will be rich.
            *You will get your foot stuck in cement.
            *You will travel the world


  5. With the fortune side facing up, fold the corners back to the middle. Now fold in half to make a rectangle. Now you have your very own fortune teller!
