IN BRIEF: Goodbye from your 2013-2014 Co-Presidents

Greetings fellow postdocs!

What a fabulous year this has been!  From POSTDOCtoberfest to the first annual postdoc retreat, the JHPDA has kept itself quite busy.  In December, we bid farewell to our friend, advocate and Associate Dean, Dr. Levi Watkins who retired, and in January, we welcomed our new Associate Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs, Dr. Martha Zeiger.

Over the past few months we worked together to improve the postdoc experience here at Hopkins.

This is evidenced by the first University-wide postdoc orientation that was just held last week and it will continue this Fall with the implementation of the Individual Development Plan, new internships, and funding opportunities.

During our tenure as Co-Presidents of the JHPDA, we have watched our association host a 2-week National Postdoc Appreciation Week, celebrate cultural holidays, “Speak out for science” in DC and learn about the diverse career opportunities available to postdocs. We spent a day at Homewood talking about “communication”, increased JHPDA visibility, revamped the weekly bulletin, and made many new friends at the monthly “shuttle socials”.

It has truly been a pleasure and a joy serving the JHPDA this past year, and we couldn’t have done this without our amazing committee members. We know that we are leaving the group in excellent hands.  We just can’t wait to see what next year will bring!

We wish you all a relaxing summer, and as always, when you see us on campus, come say hello! Looking forward to seeing you all at our events!

Blythe and Nick

2013-2014 JHPDA Co-Presidents
