AI factory: 25 local marketing pages, 13 cited by AI answers

The AI factory pattern, applied to a site of our own

An AI factory is a systematic way to build, deploy and operate AI at scale, combining repeatable processes, shared infrastructure and governance, as Teradata sets out in "What Is an AI Factory? Architecture + Key Components". Cisco, in "What Is an AI Factory?", describes the same idea as an environment engineered to treat AI development as a continuous, automated assembly line built for the generation of intelligence rather than storage and retrieval. This case study applies that pattern to content: fixed inputs, one repeated production step, the same submission step for every page, and the same measurement afterwards.

The pages described here were written and published by The Ranking Factory.

Situation

therankingstore.com is our own site, run by the same owner as The Ranking Factory; it is not a client. People ask AI assistants for digital marketing and local SEO help near them, in Havre de Grace and elsewhere in Maryland — including how to rank in Google's map pack and how to rank a Google My Business listing. The Ranking Factory had listed these local and digital marketing subjects as gaps on the site: questions buyers were putting to assistants, with no page on the site written to answer them.

What was done and why

Between Aug 28 and Oct 14, 2026, The Ranking Factory, our own software, wrote and published 25 pages on therankingstore.com on local and digital marketing, one subject per page — among them digital marketing near me, online marketing in Havre de Grace, local SEO companies in Maryland, Google map pack rankings and local SEO software — and submitted each to IndexNow. One subject per page kept every unit of output matched to a single question a person might ask; the IndexNow submission was the fixed last step, so no page was left published but unsubmitted.

Outcome

13 of the 25 pages (52%) had been cited by at least one AI answer by Oct 21, 2026, the first on Sep 9; 7 of them in answer to a question that did not name The Ranking Store. Perplexity Sonar had cited 12 of the pages, OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Luna 4, Google Gemini 3 and DeepSeek 2, and Google AI Overviews were the first to cite 2. The site's crawler log recorded search crawlers fetching all 25 pages between Oct 9 and Oct 21, 24 of them by a verified crawler.

Read narrowly, the result is this: a defined set of gap subjects went in, a defined set of pages came out, and citations in AI answers and crawler fetches were counted the same way for every page — which is what makes the factory framing useful rather than decorative.
