QUESTION:
what materials we usually use are magnetic?
prediction: we predict that most of the materials are not magnetic because some of the objects are connected to something
METHOD:
1. Get the metal resources we mentioned and lay them on a table.
2. Now take one of the objects and put the object on the tip of the magnet.
3. Then wait for 15 seconds and after do that again and again with the other objects.
4. after each object record if it is magnetic or not this will help you know what objects are magnet.
5. do this again to see if the results are the same.
6.if the results are the same then your investigation
FAIR TEST:
we will change the the object each time we record how magnetic the materials are.
we will keep the timing the same for when the magnet connects to the types of metals, the position of the objects and the magnet
The layout:
we are going to use a table so we can record how magnetic the materials are.
our rate for how strong is 1-10
Our table:
objects | how strong | results | is it magnetic? |
Door knob | 1 | not magnetic because it is connected to other parts of the door | no |
scissors | 6 | magnetic and is quite strong | yes |
paper clip | 4 | not magnetic really | yes |
sharpenor | 4 | magnetic but not that not magnetic | yes |
water bottle | 0 | not magnetic at all | no |
foil with objects | 5 | it is not that magnetic and it is not that not magnetic | yes |
metal | 10 | metal is magnetic even if the metal is in foil or plastic. | YES |
Comment from mr Grimshaw...
Nice investigation, have you thought about how the size of the objects will affect your results?
Also, can you make a prediction about what you think will happen, and give a reason for why you think this?
CONCLUSION
was the prediction correct?
our prediction was wrong because most of the materials were magnetic
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE INVESTIGATION?
Some of the materials were strong so the our result were mostly the same.
what are we going to change next time so it works?
Next time we will change the materials so it will be stronger. - what do you mean by it?
Well done for creating an investigation which can be carried out easily. I also like your recording of the results and your straight forward method for carrying out the investigation. Next time make sure that your conclusion includes all the information needed to explain what happened and what you would do differently next time.
