GAP Facts
- In Russia, GAP pays factory workers 11 cents/hour and keeps them in slave-like conditions.
- In Macao, GAP workers were forced to work excessive overtime and cheated out of pay.
- In Honduras, GAP workers are subject to forced pregnancy tests, forced overtime, locked bathrooms, exceedingly high production goals and wages of $4/ day which meet only 1/3 of their basic needs.
- At a GAP factory in Saipan, OSHA has cited over 1000 violations, including insufficient clean drinking water, blocked exits, fire hazards, unsanitary restrooms and exposed electrical wiring.
- Also in Saipan, GAP workers are forced to live in concentration camp like
conditions. They live in inward-pointing barbed wire enclosed barracks. Guards monitor workers, often subjecting them to lockdowns, curfews, threats of termination, physical harm and deportation. There have also been recent outbreaks of food poisoning.
- Indentured Labor: GAP workers from China, Thailand, Bangladesh and the Philippines pay recruitment fees in order to work at GAP, mislead into thinking that they are getting “quality work” opportunities. They are also forced to sign contracts waiving basic human rights including the freedom to join unions, attend religious services, quit, or get married. They work 12-16 hour days and are not paid for overtime.
