Unit 3: Activity & Assignment 3.4 Being Informed and Showing It

One of the best ways to be a responsible citizen is to discuss in an open and public manner the contemporary issues facing our country. One such contemporary issue is the issue of non-citizen children entering the U.S. causing a massive dilemma on the southern border.

First, read this article from NPR.

Second, read this opinion piece from Fox.

Third, read this opinion from a writer to the Mid-Valley Town Crier.

After reading, pair up with a classmate and have a 5 minute discussion on the issues facing the U.S. concerning non-citizen children coming to this country. For online exclusive students, have a conversation with someone you know regarding this issue. It can be a parent/sibling/neighbor/any person you know that you could carry on a conversation with regarding this issue. In your discussion, focus on the duties and responsibilities citizens have in this issue, but also the duties and responsibilities our non-citizen entrants have. Be factual, argue points, feel free to disagree, but do so civilly. Record your discussion in one of the following formats:

When your discussion is complete, upload it and move on to Lesson 3.5.
