Question:
How do we stop magnetism?
Equipments:
plastic
foil
card
two magnets (north and south)
Prediction: We think the magnet will not be magnetic if we wrap something around it because we think if we cover it with something not magnetic on top of the magnet,magnetism will stop.
Instructions:
1.First get your magnet and make sure that your magnet sticks onto the other magnet.
2.Secondly,your wrapping materials and wrap it around the magnet.
3. Next try and stick the magnet onto the other magnet.
4. If the magnet does not work,your investigation is right!
Fair testing
We will keep the place that we stick the magnet onto and use the same magnet.We will also keep the size of the material the same. We will change material every time we use one of them.
comment from Mr Grimshaw...
Is there anything else about the materials that you should keep the same, to make it a fair test?
What is the purpose of carrying out each test three times? Are you expecting different results each time?
Results
Material | First Result | Second Result | Third Result |
Foil | still magnetic | ||
Plastic | still magnetic | ||
Card | still magnetic |
Conclusion
The prediction was not correct because all of the rap magnets stuck to the magnet. We believe the our prediction was not correct because the magnet's magnetic field was too strong for the wrapping material. Next time we could use thicker material to stop the magnetic field.
Well done! your investigation is well-structured and contains some interesting thoughts. I really enjoyed working with you on your conclusion. Next time it would be nice to see you doing this part more independently. NW 18/05/15
