Dr. Gough and  deep dive into this in the whōle community in a post-convention series complete with a treasure box of resources and 3 “Doc Talks” with a physician and PhD Functional Nutritionist and Clinical Master Aromatherapist on VMG+, EO Mega+ and the new Frankincense Capsules + Stick but here is a summary of what we cover and a few highlights of benefits and research to be aware of that is very compelling:

First- to address the AG1 questions we are getting nonstop—

AG1 Supplement

1. Macronutrients & Calories:

    50 calories

    6g carbohydrates (2g dietary fiber)

    2g protein

Vitamins & Minerals: AG1 contains higher doses of Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, and Biotin, along with a comprehensive range of B vitamins, Vitamins A and E, and a broad spectrum of minerals (Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium, etc.).

Superfood Complex: 7,388 mg of various organic greens, fruits, and roots, including spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass, broccoli powder, spinach leaf powder, and more.

Herbs & Antioxidants: Rhodiola, eleuthero, ashwagandha, and others are known for their adaptogenic properties.

Digestive Enzymes & Probiotics: 154 mg digestive enzyme complex and 7.2 billion CFU of probiotics.

 VMG+ Supplement

1. Macronutrients & Calories:

    15 calories

    8g carbohydrates (4g dietary fiber)

    2g protein

Vitamins & Minerals: Lower (but better balanced, higher quality, better sourced, and much more bioavailable sources) doses of some vitamins and minerals compared to AG1, but covers ideally essential nutrients such as Vitamins A, C, D, E, K, and B vitamins and covers all the bases with the best sources and quantities of nutrients to couple with a typical diet. VMG+ avoids mega dosing when not scientifically shown to be critical for bioavailability and also utilizes the unique fermentation process, making what VMG+ offers far superior. Much more on this is below.

Superfood Blend: 1,380 mg of various fruits, greens, and algae, including barley grass, spirulina, chlorella, and extracts from cranberry, apple, elderberry, goji berry, kale, and more.

Bioavailability Boosting Blend: This blend contains 4,475 mg of prebiotics, fiber, and probiotics, which are designed to enhance the absorption of nutrients.

Cellular Support & Biotransformation Blends: These blends focus on supporting cellular health with ingredients like CoQ10, NAcetylCysteine, turmeric, and pomegranate extract.

Probiotics: Contains  1.5 billion CFU of probiotics, including various Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains.

Advantages and Disadvantages

 AG1

Advantages:

Comprehensive Nutrient Profile: Higher doses of Vitamin C, E, and B12 are crucial for immune function and energy production. However, the source and preparation of these key nutrients provide a critical distinction that puts VMG+ way ahead of the game due to bioavailability, superior product source, and CPTG standards for purity being much higher than those of the organic label AG1 offers—including not allowing the use of any GMOs or GMO-derived ingredients inVMG+.

Diverse Superfood Blend: The superfood complex includes a wide variety of organic greens, fruits, and roots, providing broad antioxidant support. Comparatively as we will see more below the superfood blends aren’t even close to the quality and specific choice of products when we compare to VMG+ again due to ingredient profile and sourcing, diversity and preparation to increase bioavailability.

Adaptogenic Herbs: AG1 includes stress-reducing adaptogens like rhodiola and ashwagandha, which can support mental and physical resilience. VMG+ offers similar benefits in better, more stable offerings as you will see below in the research.

Digestive Enzyme and Probiotic Support: With 7.2 billion CFUs of probiotics and a digestive enzyme blend, AG1supports gut health.

Disadvantages:

High Calorie Count: At 50 calories per serving, it's higher in calories compared to VMG+.

Cost: AG1 tends to be more expensive due to its premium ingredient profile and large number of servings.

Onetime purchase: 30 servings of the bulk bags of AG1 costs $99, or $3.30 per serving,

Single subscription: 30 servings of AG1 costs $79 per month, or $2.63 per serving in the bulk bags which promote cross contamination and rapid oxidation.

“Travel packs” which is how all VMG+ is offered standard to stop cross contamination, rapid oxidation and nutrient loss amongst many other issues of bulk packaging: 30 travel packs of AG1 costs $109, or $3.63 per serving

Travel packs with single subscription: 30 travel packs of AG1 costs $89 per month, or $2.97 per serving.

At $89.50 or $2.98 for 30 servings of VMG+ before any loyalty rewards, product of the month, shipping rewards or add and save  benefits factored in you get A LOT more bang for your buck with VMG+.

Excessive for most: The high doses of certain vitamins (like B12 and Biotin) in AG1 FAR exceed what the average consumer needs, potentially leading to nutrient overconsumption particularly considering the sources and the marked lack of a bioavailability blend to help with proper utilization of the nutrients offered. More of a good thing is not better in this case and can lead to some important imbalances.

 VMG+

Advantages:

Focused on Bioavailability: VMG+ includes a bioavailability blend with ingredients like ginger root oil and fiber to enhance the absorption of its nutrients. This makes it more efficient in delivering its benefits.

Lower Calories: At just 15 calories per serving, it is a better option for those looking for a low calorie supplement.

Diverse Antioxidant and Cellular Support: The Cellular Support and Biotransformation Blends focus on promoting cellular health and detoxification, with ingredients like CoQ10, turmeric, and grape seed extract, which are beneficial for overall vitality and longevity.

Balanced Nutrient Profile: While the vitamin doses are generally lower than AG1, they still meet a substantial portion of the daily value, which is likely more appropriate for an average consumer and with significantly enhanced bioavailability, VMG+ will do a better and more efficient job of meeting the health needs of the average consumer of all ages, stages and health status.

More Fiber: VMG+ offers more prebiotic dietary fiber (4g) compared to AG1, which can aid digestion and support healthy cholesterol levels and most importantly of all lead to SIGNIFICANT advantages in absorption of all the goodness in VMG+ as opposed to AG1 where with less fiber to assist with absorption, much of the goodness will not make its way to the red blood cells and will be excreted as waste.

Disadvantages:

Some Lower Vitamin and Mineral Content: On the surface level, compared to AG1, VMG+ provides smaller amounts of certain vitamins (especially Vitamin C, E, and B12). However, the types, sources and amounts in VMG+ are in perfect alignment with what I, as a PhD Functional Nutritionist, much prefer to see as too much of a good thing is NOT always a good thing. Particularly when AG1 offers less fiber and no bioavailability blends. The amounts in VMG+ coupled with our bioavailability blend, cellular support blend and biotransformation blend make my heart sing. The right doses of the right nutrients from the right sources presented in the right way makes all the difference here.

Fewer Probiotics: VMG+ contains fewer CFUs (1.5 billion CFUs) than AG1, which could be seen as less beneficial for gut health, especially for those who need higher probiotic support, however, again, source and bioavailability matter a GREAT deal here, and side by side comparison of the two in the evidence shows a strong support for the choices made in the VMG+ blend. Also, factoring in that VMG+ offers twice the fiber which serves as an all natural, powerful prebiotic matrix for the probiotics, VMG+ may offer “less” on paper but far more in actual delivery and bioavailability. Additionally, because we have the PB Restore as a critical piece of our foundational wellness daily protocol— too much of a good thing would be wasteful and not nearly so beneficial as taking these in their best protected and presented format. The micro encapsulation in PB Restore sets the bar as the gold standard, whereas the probiotics in AG1 lack this critical feature meaning that by the time it makes it to the consumer, and in particular through the consumer’s stomach acid and bile and into their gut, most of the potency and efficacy will be lost.

Scientific Research to Support VMG+ Ingredients: Here are the cliff notes with more available below and MUCH more available in the discussion and resources Dr. Gough and I offer on our deep dive and “treasure box” resources on our whōle community resource page in our post convention analysis drop.

1. CoQ10:

Coenzyme Q10 is essential for cellular energy production and functions as an antioxidant, protecting cells from oxidative stress. Studies have shown it improves mitochondrial function, cardiovascular health, and reduces symptoms of fatigue.

2. NAcetylCysteine (NAC):

NAC replenishes glutathione, one of the body’s most powerful antioxidants, and has been shown to support liver function, detoxification, and reduce inflammation.

3. Turmeric Extract:

Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, is known for its potent antiinflammatory properties and has been extensively studied for its ability to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, and support joint health.

4. Probiotics (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium):

Probiotics in VMG+ have been shown to improve gut health, boost immune function, and may help in the prevention of gastrointestinal disorders such as IBS .

5. Spirulina and Chlorella:

These algae are rich in proteins, vitamins, and antioxidants. Studies suggest they support immune function, reduce cholesterol levels, and help detoxify heavy metals from the body.

Why VMG+ Might Be a Better Purchase for the Average Consumer:

1. Bioavailability Enhancers: The inclusion of a bioavailability blend in VMG+ ensures that the nutrients are absorbed more efficiently, which means that even at lower doses, the body is more likely to utilize the vitamins and minerals effectively.

2. Balanced Nutrient Content: The vitamin and mineral levels in VMG+ are more aligned with daily nutritional needs, making it a better choice for the average consumer without the risk of overconsumption.

3. Cost Effective: Given its lower calorie count,  emphasis on bioavailability, and much higher quality and quantity of nutrients, VMG+ offers superior benefits at a lower price point even before all of the additional benefits through the Rewards program, POM, Add and Save, etc., making it a more cost effective choice.

4. Comprehensive Cellular Support: With ingredients like CoQ10 and NAC, VMG+ supports cellular energy and detoxification, which can be beneficial for general health and longevity.

5. Lower Caloric Impact: For those concerned with caloric intake, VMG+ provides a nutrient dense  option at just 15 calories per serving.

6. CPTG standards far exceed organic labeling standards and are tested batch by batch rather than at random ensuring a consistency and quality that is unrivaled.

For the average consumer, VMG+ might be a more balanced option. It offers ideal levels of essential vitamins and minerals, enhanced nutrient absorption, and robust cellular support, all while being lower in calories and more affordable. AG1, while more comprehensive in a few key nutrients may offer more than necessary for almost all consumers which can do more harm than good and comes at a higher price point.

Here is a more in depth peek into the goodness, we cover this and much more on the whōle community which all are welcome to anytime— if you’re with dōTERRA, you’re with us. ♥️
