Course Description

Health Science 2  is for students to continue learning skills needed to enter the medical field.

Continued career exploration, Medical Terminology with hands on skills,as well as studies in geriatrics,

alternative medicine, sports medicine, dentistry, pharmacology and more. Opportunities to explore various

colleges and programs that offer health related careers

Grade: 12

Length: 1 Year

*This is a CTE Course -4 college credits

Prerequisite: Health Science 1

Recommended: Anatomy and Physiology

Course Overview and Objectives: 

This course is for students who wish to explore and pursue careers in the healthcare field.  Medical Language for healthcare settings will prepare students to read, understand and utilize medical language in a clinical setting.  

Mt. Hood Community College Dual Credit

College credit is available through Mt. Hood Community College Dual Credit Program. This course is articulated with MO111 Medical Language for Healthcare Career Settings. This course articulates in the Spring for 4 credits. Students must apply to the College Now Program and register during Spring Term to receive credit.                        

Coursework Cont.

MO111 Course Description: This course is for the student majoring in or interested in a health related field. Medical language, to include medical terminology, medical abbreviations and medical procedures, is covered. This course prepares the student to read, understand and utilize medical language in clinical settings. Outcomes:

  1. Read medical reports and information found in medical charts
  2. Use medical language as it applies to body systems and pathological conditions
  3. Perform word analysis of component parts of medical terminology, (word roots, prefixes, suffixes, and combining forms
  4. Use medical language as it applies to body systems and pathological conditions
  5. Define, spell and pronounce medical terms in a professional manner
  6. Read actual medical reports and demonstrate an integration of medical language

7.   Recognize and identify frequently used medical abbreviations for medical procedures, tests and    

      pathological conditions    

*Be prepared to spend at least 15 min every night memorizing, studying, practicing skills and vocabulary.

  • Many assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. Please bring your charged Chromebook to class every day!

          Students will need a 1 ½” binder

About Me

  • This is my 29th year teaching in the David Douglas School District! I taught elementary for 19 years at Cherry Park and Gilbert Park. This is my 9th year at the high school
  • I was a Paramedic prior to becoming an educator.
  • I live in Sandy with my 3 daughters (2 in college, and 1 at Alice Ott)
  • I love music, animals, and spending time outdoors.
