The children will:

  • Continue to learn about basic needs.
  • Explore food. 

What do we need? (food) 

  1. Ask the children which is their favorite food.
  2. The teacher will read aloud the poem “I’d Like Some more!”
  3. Have the children name the food mentioned in the poem.
  4. Display food in Big Book 3, Lesson 8.
  5. Remind children that we have been learning about needs and wants.
  6. Call a volunteer to define needs (food, clothing, and shelter) and wants (things would people like to have).
  7. Ask the children to show the need shown on the page. (food)
  8. Tell the children that when shopping for food, families have to make important choices about what to buy.
  9. Have the children look at the meals shown. Ask:Which meal would you choose? Why?
  10. Talk about other choices about food is to choose what is available.
  11. Have the children identify foods shown.
  12. Explain what the meals are made of. (Healthful food.
  13. Ask: Why do you think these foods are healthful, or good for you? During each meal would be most likely to to eat the foods shown? What healthful drink might you have with this meal? How do people get foods that they need? What do people use to buy the food they eat?
