Why Are YOU Celebrating the Refuge System's 114th Birthday?
It's the 114th birthday of the Refuge System! To celebrate, we're asking conservationists like you to share why you appreciate the National Wildlife Refuge System. Did you spot that ultra-rare bird on your life list on a refuge? Maybe you experienced your first hunt or caught your biggest fish on a refuge. With 566 national wildlife refuges in every state and territory, we're sure you can come up with a great message that describes why the National Wildlife Refuge System matters to you.

We plan to compile these messages and share them with elected officials in Washington, DC, to illustrate the broad support from all Americans for the National Wildlife Refuge System. By submitting your story, we can show Congress that Americans from all walks of life value the National Wildlife Refuge System - the world's largest network of protected lands and waters dedicated to wildlife conservation.

For the past seven years, the Refuge System has faced declining or flat budgets. This lack of funding has serious impacts on the ground, preventing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from carrying out critical wildlife management efforts like habitat restoration and invasive species removal, and limits public access for outdoor recreational activities like hunting, fishing, wildlife watching, photography, environmental education, and interpretation. An outpouring of support for the Refuge System will show Congress that they must take care of these treasured public lands. By submitting this form, you are authorizing the National Wildlife Refuge Association to use and share your submission.
