The original Park Master Plan for Ty Warner Park included a recreation building that would compliment the beauty and outdoor recreation enjoyed at the park. Such a facility would provide programming for early childhood, the arts, summer camps, fitness, community gatherings; virtually any indoor program desired by the community. After the development of the park and all outdoor amenities funds were not available to construct a recreation center. New opportunities may help us complete the park Master Plan. Last month Governor Pat Quinn announced a one time grant opportunity for park, recreation and forest preserve agencies for the purposes of funding “brick and mortar” type construction projects that provide additional recreational opportunities for Illinois communities. The PARC Grant will provide a 75% cost match to fund projects up to a maximum grant award of $2.5 million dollars. Because of the possible funding that could be awarded to the Westmont Park District the Board of Commissioner’s believes we should act now by submitting an application to better serve our residents without any impact to our existing tax base. The entire project could be funded by means of the District’s existing operating budget. Grant applications are due March 10, 2014. Grant recipients will not be announced until this time next year.
