About Math Placements at Watkinson School
The standard sequence of math courses at Watkinson is Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2. After Algebra 2, students may decide to take Pre-Calculus, Senior Math Topics, or no math class at all. The Senior Math Topics course covers topics that include economics, personal finance, probability, and statistics. In order to go on to the next level in math, you must earn a 70 or better in your current course. We offer an accelerated section of Geometry and Algebra 2. These sections are designed for students who learn at a faster pace. You are eligible for the course if you have earned the equivalent of a 90 or above in your current Algebra or Geometry course and your teacher recommendation states that you would benefit from an accelerated course. If you have questions about whether an accelerated course is appropriate for you, or if you have questions about p;lacement, please contact Katy Cronin, Math Department Chair, at
