| Gracey | Murphy | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qNeGSJaQ9Q | This clip was similiar due to the creature being hideous and being created by Frankenstein. However, there were not any other valuable similarites. | This clip showed Frankenstein bringing the creature to life, but he had an audience when he did so. Also, in this clip Frankenstein just so happened to have his trusty sidekick Igor. He also shouts "It's Alive" in a manical voice. | The creature was ugly in this clip, but unlike in the book the people did not seem to notice his monstorous looks. The viewers of the creation were more concerned with Frankenstein going crazy rather than the creature. Another interesting part of this clip was Frankenstein's enthusiasm; he was happy when he created the creature, even though it was ugly.
| Bailey | Anderson | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qNeGSJaQ9Q&feature=share&list=PLpnbZIOs85djbTBZ6xLFwJyhJOq9Ei9rY | Alright, so this is the creation scene from the version of Frankenstein from 1931. I didn't see many similarities in this scene at all. | Where do I start? Umm. There are spectators to the reanimation of the monster. The monster gets raised through the roof to get reanimated for some reason? There's a really dramatic moment of 'IT'S ALIVE' which does not happen in the book whatsoever. | Actually, this monster (or what I can see of him) is very similar to what I pictured, although he isn't nearly as large as I pictured. But it's really realistic how the monster is wrapped in bandages and stitched up. He's pretty spindly, which isn't how the monster is described in the book.
| Amber | Linnenkamp | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ri9NtxIf4g | He was similar because he was creted by someone, and he only saw himself as a monster. Not a monster because everyone says he is one, but because he has made himself into one. | In the preview I watched he seemed very aggresive, mean, and scary. So far in the novel he doesn't seem that bad. Also, everybody knows who he is, and wants to kill him. In the novel only his creator knows who he is. | In the 2014 movie, I, Frankenstein, he is portrayed by Aaron Eckhart. I think he would've been somebody a little bigger, muscular, chubbier. Also, he's roaming around the city like no big deal. In the novel he's just in his own little world in the woods. What does make it a whole different perspective is that he is over 200 years old in the newest movie, so he has had more experiences, he's smarter, people know of him now, and there's more of his "kind".
| Caitlin | Yeggy | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96sUPxlIfx4 | The creature in this scene reminds me a lot more of the creature described in the book right after he was created. He is vacillating (TWO POINTS!!!!) back and forth and his movements are very nonhuman. Nothing like the creature described later in the book, who is very well spoken and has sophisticated thoughts. | I don't think I even remember reading about a scene like this in the book. In this scene, Frankenstein and another man are trying to subdue the creature using fire. In the book, the only time Frankenstein and the creature are together for a long period of time is on the mountain. | The creature is really hokey, but I guess I can't expect much for visual effects from a film made in 1931.
| Gracey | Murphy | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCdiaXLUj6Q | This clip contained many similiarities to the book. In this clip, the Creature's want to belong to society is depicted very well. Along with the Creature's for acceptance, this clip always expresses the desire between Frankenstein and Elizabeth. | The huge difference that struck me as peculiar in this clip was the way Frankenstein reacted after The Creature was shot. Apparently when the Creature was hurt, Frankenstein could feel it. However, in the book there is no sign of Frankenstein feeling the Creature's pain. | I expected the creature to almost exactly how he is in this clip. He seems so confused and lost, as expected from my reading. He's a vulnerable being desperate to be accepted. In his one attempt to save a child, he is wounded. The Creature is depicted as a loyal creature in both the book and the movie clip. The other concern I have with this creature are his looks. It seems to me that this creature should be a wee bit more horrifying to actually frighten people away.
| Jiovanni | Tapia | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN8K-4osNb0 | Victor Frankenstein created the creature and everyone around the creature see him as a monster. | The creature is causing havoc and trying to kill Victor. The creature in the clip also "preys on the innocent" and "converts women in to hysteria" There were two guys in the lab with Victor during the creation. The people of Geneva (I'm assuming) are attacking the Frankenstein residence, but who knows, that may happen towards the end of the book. | In the novel, I pictured the creature as a massive being roaming about, sort of big and cuddly like a panda, but horribly hideous. The creature is smaller in stature and doesn't get to the point where he learns how to speak and be all sophisticated like.
| Kristine | Pingol | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew30jkv0ij4 | Like Frankenstein in the book, Frankenstein in this movie created a creature and was so devastated with the result of it. It seems like he doesn't want to do anything with it after creating this creature. | In this movie, Frankenstein randomnly picked a body in the grave to experiment, but in the book, he used Elizabeth's body to create the creature. | The creature's face doesn't look scary to me at all, though he really looked different. He seemed the kind of creature who will kill you once you look at him differently, in short, he looks violent to me, unlike in the book where the creature, as much as possible didn't want to hurt humans at first.
| Caitlin | Yeggy | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbZMFMSKQ2s | In this clip, the creature tries to make friends with a human being. The creature's yearning for a friend is a big motif in the book, so the movie and the book were the same in this manner. | This clip is from the same movie as my last clip. The title of this clip is "The Monster Befriends Maria." There isn't even a character in the book named Maria. Perhaps this was the movie's version of Agatha? | Same creature as last time. This creature is more similar to the one I envisioned when reading the book. Large forehead, droopy eyes, etc.
| Caitlin | Yeggy | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFaY7r73BIs | This was the trailer for the Frankenstein with Robert De Niro. This clip focused a lot on the weather. Flashes of lightening were used to set an eerie mood. | I'm not sure if this is yet to come in the story, but there is a lot of sex in this trailor. I think the two having sex in the trailor are Elizabeth and Victor Frankenstein. While I do sense romantic tension between the two in the book, they haven't done the hanky panky yet, so this is different so far. | The creature looks more human than I had envisioned. I thought his skin would be more yellow and his face would be structured differently. I hadn't envisioned the creature with so many stitches on his face.
| Jiovanni | Tapia | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg17y6iz7Xs | Since there was only a music track playing in the background and no dialogue heard, it was hard to understand what events were going on, but the big one was the creation of the creature. Both involve the creation and both the trailer and novel emphasize weather. | The clip showed a man undressing a woman. So far, there haven't been any indications of sexual activity occuring between any two parties (but then again, we haven't finished the novel yet.) | In the novel, I pictured the creature as a massive being roaming about, sort of big and cuddly like a panda, but horribly hideous. You don't get a good look at the creature in the movie trailer. Luckily, from what I got to see, the creature was hideous in his countenance, which is accurate to my vision of the creature.
| Sam | Mullens | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohrHdMo86DM | Uhhhh.... There is nothing similar here. Except that people are scared by the creature | The creature is MASSIVE in this movie, like the size of trees. hes fighting some dinosaur thing? He cant talk at all, and groans when he eats bread. When he first appears, he is coming out of water.. like hes a super human or something... This is just horrible. No | He reminds me of the Green Giant.. He is nothing like I pictured. He is massively tall, and and is wearing a dress thing. This was a huge dissapointment! His forehead bothers me so much it's not even funny.
| Sam | Mullens | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5HCmd-Rjvc | Everybody was terrified of the creature, nobody wanted to be near him, and got scared just thinking about it | Frankenstein tells people about the creature in this clip. The creature moans and groans, and never makes complete sentences. In the clip, Frankenstein tries to keep the creature out of trouble, and away from people | In this clip, the creature looks big, and bulky, and he limps. I pictured him to move smoothly in the book. The creature doesn't talk, or forms sentences, he only groans. He seems really stupid in the movie, and I thought he would to be really smart.
| Kristine | Pingol | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6xQT0euQ6Y | Creature was also made by Victor Frankenstein. Not to mention, this creature also killed humans (particularly humans that were related to Victor) | The creature doesn't look innocent of some sort. Like in the book, when all the creature wanted was to be friends with some humans, in this movie, I don't think the creature wanted to be friends with anyone so he kills these humans instead. | Didn't really show the creatures face that much, but he looks like a human too, though his face has a lot of scars. The creature also looked barbaric, like he kills humans for no reason.
| Kristine | Pingol | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxOSPfUw3qw | The monster was created by a human many years ago. | Frankenstein battle against monster like him in this movie, unlike in the book... It's Frankenstein against human. | In the novel, I imagined the creature as somewhat ugly and his skin color is green, just like the ones I see in cartoons, but in the movie, the creature looked a lot like human with some scars on his face that made him look ugly.
| Sam | Mullens | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxOSPfUw3qw | He talked normal, unlike the other clips, and he had feelings. He believed himself that he was a monster, and could destroy man kind ( like william, and all the others) | In this clip, his name is Frankenstein, instead of creature.. Or I guess he doesnt reall have a name. The creature is trying to save or destroy the world, I'm not sure, but he doesn't do that in the book | The creature was attractive in this clip! unlike in the story, he has a girl friend, and only has a couple of scars on his face. He's nothing like I would picture for a 2014 film. You would think that they would enhance his uglieness.
| Jiovanni | Tapia | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCUZd1iuq3o | The creature was created by someone. | It is completely different from the novel. One, the creature is handsome, the only deformity it has are the scars on his face. Two, the creature is fighting gargoyles and kicking butt. Three, the creature was created 200 years ago and is living in modern times. Four, the creature's name in the movie is, Frankenstein. Five, the trailer hints at a love interest. Six, the creature is in no way 8 feet tall. I hate this movie. | In the novel, I pictured the creature as a massive being roaming about, sort of big and cuddly like a panda, but horribly hideous. In the movie, it's an ordinary dude who has scars and no hint of being "monster-ish" Way to ruin another great work of literature, Hollywood.
| Gracey | Murphy | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEQrgVrId8Y | The similarities in this clip are the shocked faces of the people that came across the Creature. Everyone seems so frightened every time they see the Creature. | The difference in this story is the Creature himself. The movie makes it seems as though he is this world's most terrible monster, even though he's not bad of a person. He's just lost. | As I mentioned before, this clip over exaggerates the Creature's harmful nature. They focus on all the negative aspects of the monster instead of the positive aspects.
| Connor | Ruffenach | http://youtu.be/nur4g4r1LN4 http://youtu.be/1qNeGSJaQ9Q | The Monster was new to everything. Everyone else was scared of the monster in another clip I watched. The Monster couldn't talk at first. | Frankenstein stayed with the monster and wasn't afraid of him. The experiment was done in a lab. Frankenstein had an assistant to help him. Other people were there to see the creation. | I pictured a walking oversized corpse. The monster in the clips was giant but didn't look as corpse like. I also watched a clip from the 1994 movie where the monster looked more corpsey but not as giant. I pictured a giant made of multiple parts put together that neither showed quite as much as I pictured.
| Bailey | Anderson | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ri9NtxIf4g | This is the trailer for I, Frankenstein (and the trailer part ends at 2:29). It's similar in a lot of ways because it shows the monster treading through snow which I assume is supposed to represent the artctic. It also has the monster (named Frankenstein in this version, *shakes head*) talking about how he's the only one of his kind. | The new movie is set in modern times and the monster has been alive for 200 years. He's seeking to save humanity, which is the opposite of what I'm seeing from the monster after today's reading. (Although I can understand his contempt.) | The monster is very different from what I pictured him as. I pictured him as this pieced together human being looking sort of thing, but in this movie, he's very human looking. Almost too human looking for the premise of the character. There are stitch marks on his face, and the trailer shows a scene where he is being sewn back up, but other than that, I don't get much of a monster vibe.
| Bailey | Anderson | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL9Q_0JtMNA | This is the trailer for Young Frankenstein. I couldn't find a clip short enough for my purposes, but I figured the trailer would get the same kinda thing. I haven't seen this movie but there are a few similar things, but none of them are large enough to say. | The little girl isn't afraid of him, and the animation of the monster is more dramatic in this version than in the original book. | I guess he looks like the creature I pictured, but it's hard to have an objective view when I've been seeing Hollywood's interpretation of Frankenstein's monster for a long time. The stitches on his head make him seem pieced together but the rest of him seems too similar I guess. Peter Boyle makes a great monster though :).
| Erica | Zieglowsky | www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pkAiQctFos | I believe this clip is from the scene where the creature begins to tell Frankenstein about his story, but I'm unsure. The creature is made at Frankenstein though. | The speech sounds much more modern and I don't recall the creature asking Frankenstein to create a companion for him but maybe we just haven't read that part yet. | The creature looks much more like what I imagined the creature would look like. His head is much more round instead of square and he has a lot of stitches and scars on his face. It looked very much so like what I imagine a pieced together face would look like.
| Erica | Zieglowsky | www.youtube.com/watch?v=8H3dFh6GA-A | Well its a creation scene but thats about it. There are other people in the room at the time and Frankenstein is acting a little more crazy when it come to life than I pickture him doing in the book | There are three other people in the room at the time of the creation and Frankenstein seems to be acting slightly more excited and enthusiastic than I picture him being in the book. | The creature's face and most of its body is covered up by sheets in this clip, however, his arm does look like what I picture the creature's arm looking like but it has more of a square head and I picutre the creature in the book to have a more normal looking head.
| Erica | Zieglowsky | www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5FtI472Q6I | There is nothing similar in this clip. | There is a little girl that the creature encounters and begins to play with. She is not scared of him and he is unable to communicate with her. | The creature is portrayed as a kind but stupid character whos intentions are good but seems to go about them in the worng way (when he tosses the girl into the lake). He simple does not know how the world works yet. He doesn't look scary. He has a square head and bolts sticking out of the side of his neck, I dont picture the bolts being a part of the creatures body at all in the book. His skin is obviously stiched together but there are very few stiches on his face and I pictured there being more.
