Synthetic Biology Global Awareness and Acceptance Survey
INFORMED CONSENT AGREEMENT
Please read this consent agreement carefully before you decide to participate in the study.
PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH STUDY: The purpose of the study is to collect data on awareness and attitudes towards synthetic biology on a demographic basis. It is expected that 400 people in total will complete this survey.
WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THE STUDY: You will take a short 19 multiple choice question survey. Any question may be skipped. Names and other personal data will not be collected.
TIME REQUIRED: The study will require about 5 minutes of your time.
RISKS: There are no anticipated risks in this study.
BENEFITS: There are no direct benefits to you for participating in this research study. The study aims to help us understand general awareness and attitudes towards synthetic biology.
CONFIDENTIALITY: Because of the nature of the data, it may be possible to deduce your identity; however, there will be no attempt to do so and your data will be reported in a way that will not identify you.
VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION: Your participation in the study is completely voluntary.
RIGHT TO WITHDRAW FROM THE STUDY: You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty.
HOW TO WITHDRAW FROM THE STUDY: If you want to withdraw from the study, tell the researcher that you wish to do so, and cease filling out the survey. There is no penalty for withdrawing. However, after completing the survey, you will no longer be able to withdraw. This is because, as no identifiers are collected, we will have no way of distinguishing which response is yours.
PAYMENT: You will receive no payment for participating in the study.
