It's On Us UW Pledge
The Peer Health Educators, the Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence Activists, Greeks Take Action, UW Health and Wellness, and Healthy Huskies recognize that college sexual assault is a pervasive problem on campuses across the nation – and the UW campus is no different. We are bringing the It's On Us Campaign to the UW campus to empower all students, survivors, and activists alike in preventing sexual assault and creating a community truly resilient against sexual violence.
By signing this pledge you are taking part in the movement to end sexual violence on our campus. Thank you for your support!
First & Last Name
I will use affirming language when speaking to a victim/survivor, believe them, empower their voice and validate their experiences (“I believe you, it's not your fault, you're not alone.”)
I will offer to connect my friend to the Health and Wellness Advocate if they disclose that they have experienced sexual violence, relationship violence, or stalking.
I will choose to speak up against rape jokes and sexist comments and through this normalize consent culture, and minimize rape culture.
I will understand that consent is affirmative, non-coerced, continuous, and enthusiastic. It is the presence of a yes, not the absence of a no.
I will recognize that people have different boundaries while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. I will ask about these boundaries in order to receive clear consent.
I will check in with my partner(s) if I am ever unsure if I am receiving consent.
I will keep an eye on someone who is in a vulnerable situation (If they are heavily intoxicated, alone, or distressed in any way).
I will learn how to be able to identify concerning situations and familiarize myself with resources.
I will be an active bystander by walking my friends/peers home, and by keeping an eye on people who are intoxicated to make sure they get home safely.
I will choose to intervene either directly or indirectly when I see or recognize a potential act of violence.
