Discussion Group on "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness"

The UUA has selected Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness" as this year's Common Read. Join USC professor and UUCC member Dr. David Crockett on Monday nights — October 29 and November 5, 12 and 19 — as we explore Alexander's challenging analysis of the US criminal justice system: "we have simply replaced one caste system (Jim Crow) for another one (imprisonment, parole, detention) that keeps the majority of minorities in a permanent state of disenfranchisement." (Forbes Magazine). Potluck dinner begins at 6pm; discussion follows from 6:30 - 8:00. Copies of the book may be purchased at a 20% discount in the Social Hall after Sunday services.
