The UT Parking Strategies Committee, led by Bob Harkins, is pushing for UT to raise the price of parking permits. Even though permit prices have already been steadily increasing in the past years, the Committee is recommending that prices be increased at a more rapid pace for at least 5 years. The C permit (cheapest available), for example, costs $120 now and they are proposing it be hiked to $150. The Committee's goal is to raise UT's parking rates to the market-level, even though this is supposed to be a public, affordable university.

This proposal is in a line of corporatization schemes at UT, following Shared Services and other proposals from the Business Productivity committee. Rather than look out for the community of students, staff, and faculty, the UT administration has been aggressively pushing these schemes at the behest of business leaders and consulting companies like Accenture.
UT IS NOT BROKE - UT has some of the highest paid university executives and the biggest endowment in the entire country. We need to wrest back control of this public university from the 1%.
