Integrated Clinical Skills & Intro to Clinical Reasoning
For the Integrated Clinical Skills (ICS) sessions through the end of this calendar year, we are fully integrating the clinical skills session at the Sim Center with the ICR session immediately following. We will have a 6:1 student to faculty ratio with the addition of Physical Exam Teaching Associates (PETAs) to augment the clinical skills teaching. We will maintain a total of three cases discussed at each session, and each student will have 20 minutes to complete a focused H&P with a standardized patient for one of those cases. Each student will accomplish an oral presentation to the group, and will complete a written H&P based on their encounter. The clinical skills session will be 2.5 hours long, and will be immediately followed by 45 minutes for the clinical reasoning session with your 6 students based on the same three cases. We will provide specific teaching hand-outs with detailed teaching points to cover for each session for the preceptors. This format allows greater flexibility for faculty teaching during an academic year AND for faculty to choose to participate in content areas in which they feel they have special expertise.
