The NSF-funded Flyover Country mobile app for geoscience (
fc.umn.edu) is being developed beyond its original outreach purpose to be useful for research, citizen science, and education. We want to make connections with educators who are using the app in the classroom (or want to!), and to get students outside!
We think that undergraduate educators could use FC in one or more of the following general ways:
1. Freeform use of the app to enhance the presentation of geoscience material;
2. As a part of exercises in the classroom or in the field;
3. Assignments outside of class, given to students to explore their routes when traveling, their home towns, home towns of their relatives, etc.;
4. Building real or virtual class field trips around use of the app, including entering their own field trip stops into the app database for use by all app users.
Those who fill out this form will be added to a Google Group. We hope that the list will eventually be used by all participants to share ideas, curriculum, partnership ideas, new app features, etc. We will also use the list to contact educators to interview and/or survey as part of the evaluation portion of one of our NSF grants.
In 2017 you can find us at PACLIM, North-Central/Northeast Section GSA, the Earth Educators' Rendezvous, the EarthCube All Hands Meeting, the GSA Annual Meeting, and the AGU Fall Meeting, and always at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, LacCore/CSDCO, Department of Earth Sciences, at

We hope you'll join our list, visit us at conferences, keep in touch, and share your great ideas.
