Active Learning Institute with Robin Wright

The Center for Teaching and Faculty Development (CTFD) will host an intensive "institute" on active and team-based learning on August 25th-26th with Robin Wright. Professor Wright is the Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs in the College of Biological Sciences (CBS) and professor of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development at the University of Minnesota. In 2012, she was named as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 2014, she was awarded the Elizabeth W. Jones Award for Excellence in Education from the Genetics Society of America.

Dr. Wright will deliver a series of workshops designed to help faculty develop and deliver effective student-centered activities and assignments for students, peers, and teams in active, flexible, and team-based learning classrooms. Register no later than August 15th. The institute will help kick-off the Integrative Learning Center at UMass. For those who plan to attend the entire workshop, a general schedule for both days is below. Any session participants are welcome to lunch on Day 1 (August 25th).

Day 1 (August 25)

10:15-11:30: Workshop 1: Teaching in TBLs: Lessons from the Trenches
11:30-12:30PM: Lunch (provided by CTFD)
12:30PM-1:45PM: Workshop 2: Course and Assignment Design

Day 2 (August 26th)
9:00AM-10:15AM: Evaluating Student Learning and Groups.
