Provost's Sustainability Internship (PSI) Student Application

Student applications for the 2013-14 academic year are due by 5 pm on Friday March 15, 2013.  

There will be a mandatory informational session on Thursday, April 4th. Interviews will be held beginning the week of April 8. Students will be notified of their placement by the beginning of May.

The Provost's Sustainability Internship Program is a year long course that introduces students to the campus sustainability movement and provides them with professional experience in sustainability-related topics through an internship, lectures and professional development trainings, and peer discussion. Students are matched with staff mentors to develop on-campus projects related to sustainability issues in energy and climate; transportation; green building; land use; waste management; purchasing and water. At the end of the year, students present their projects to students, faculty and staff at the Annual Campus Sustainability Celebration. Students will receive a $500 scholarship and internship credit at the end of each quarter for the internship work.

Some past projects include:

1. Leed Certification for new buildings and classrooms on campus

2. Waste Reduction and Community Building at Family Student Housing

3. Greenwashing Training Program for Campus Buyers- Procurement and Business Contracts

4. Education and Outreach for Site Stewardship

5. Increasing the amount of sustainable seafood in UCSC dining halls

6.  Developing a Green Revolving Loan Fund for UCSC
