Intercambio Volunteer Sign-ups
5th Annual Intercambio for the International Youth Network on Food Security and Food Sovereignty.

Intercambio, or (Intercultural Exchange) is an annual, 8 day event that is rotated amongst the youth Network for Food Security and Food sovereignty(SSAN) that emerged within many of CAN's coffee purchasing sites. Many of the participants will be arriving from Mexico and Central America. The youth network consists of rural youth who are leading projects in their cooperatives along with university students pursuing agroecology. FoCAN's role throughout the youth network is to facilitate the sharing of knowledge that occurs during the intercambio. The common objective of the youth network is to initiate an agricultural system that is ecologically sound, provides fair wages and is sustainable for the following generation.

The week consists of a variety of activities consisting of: presentations, farm tours, leadership training, and meetings with farmers for insight on production management. For UCSC students intercambio is an opportunity to understand the challenges countries are facing and how youth are organizing and developing local solutions.  
 
We are in need of volunteers to help facilitate activities in order to transition the participants from one activity to another. Volunteer will be required for food shopping and preparation, translations, or other additional activities.

1. Outreach:
Outreach volunteers will support foCAN leadership in placing fliers throughout campus sites, making class announcements, tabling etc. Commitment: Flexible
2.Food Preparation:
 Assist foCAN to prepare meals conference participants during the week of intercambio. Food preparation consists of chopping, peeling, cooking and preparing a meal for a group of 20 consisting of participants and staff.  Commitment: immediate day of event planning.
 3. Food Shopping/ Donation pick-up:
Support FoCAN in receiving food donations for lunch preparation by writing letters of inquiry for gift certificates to local grocery stores. In Additions volunteers will go food shopping and can be additional volunteers for food preparation. Commitment flexible, unless preparing food.
4. Clean up/ Set up
Volunteers will help set up and later clear off tables and chairs during our panel and world cafe. Receive dinner.
