"People Power: Engaging Sustainable Transportation Solutions" Course
This 2-unit, student-led course is designed to engage students in thinking critically about our national and local transportation systems to identify social, economic, and environmental problems and develop and study possible solutions. Through lectures, guest speakers, discussion, readings, videos, and hands-on projects that will involve the local community, students will develop a framework for understanding the challenges and possibilities for improving transportation in our community and nation-wide.
Class meets every Friday of winter quarter 2014 from 8 AM - 10:40 AM in Kresge. In addition to weekly class and readings, students are expected to engage directly with a project of their choice (selected during week 3) for at least 20 hours throughout the quarter. Some projects will be working directly with People Power and its program, Green Ways to School. Students will also be expected to contribute weekly to a class blog. By the end of the quarter, this blog will comprise of research, reports, photographs, and proposed and implemented solutions to transportation issues facing our community.
