ERHi Gang,

You recently had a question about an app to store locations. Starring items in google maps is generally pretty good for that, but an even better option for those of us who like to go camping is MyTrails by developer frogsparks. The app allows you to download maps for offline use and has an incredibly wide variety of map sources to choose from. This is huge for campers and hikers because you can select a map source including topographic data and trails. Then, you can cache that map offline and view it as you hike. To top it off, not only can you store point locations but you can also track your entire hike. The app is quite adept at creating GPS trails and has a wide variety of tweaks for how much & how often GPS data is collected. The free version is very fully featured and has no advertisements. The paid for version $2.75 and adds the ability for you to overlay multiple past GPS tracks on top of your current map view, among other things. Check it out, it's pretty top notch.

Love the show,

Hey AAA crew.

The reason I highly recommend Compass as well as the Catch note taking app is that you can save a note about the place, tag it, add a picture, create a stream and easily view it in any maps application because it records the the Latitude and Longitude and even altitude. Its actually one of my core apps that I always install on every device since I started using it 2 years ago and it has steadily improved. Its actually good enough to win in the arena I think.

Anyways I hope you pass it on to the caller and really have him check it out I think he would be pleased.

Love the Show

JHI'm a HUGE fan of SwiftKey, but have a concern. If Apple gets its patent for predictive words upheld, what does that do to SwiftKey? It is a bit of a broader question for ALL developers as much of the software patents used to hammer HTC and Samsung are available in third-party apps.

[1] How do we all think Samsung has fared in light of the patent decision a few weeks ago? A new survey by polling firm YouGov says that buzz surrounding Samsung in the shadow of the decision has actually risen dramatically, surpassing that of Apple in the 18-34 age group. "heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or by word of mouth," then answer whether it was positive or negative. The firm then turns that score into a number between 100 to -100 (-100 is completely negative, and 100 is completely positive). Points are assigned by "subtracting negative feedback from positive."
[2] Hey AAA crew, I briefly mentioned in the chatroom about Compass from Catch.com and I think it is a better solution for your caller than using the Google Maps or it can be used in conjunction with Google maps (now believe this or not for some strange reason offline maps are available in 150 countries and Trinidad and Tobago is not one of them even though I used it when it was just a labs feature ???? https://support.google.com/gmm/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2650347) The reason I highly recommend Compass as well as the Catch note taking app is that you can save a note about the place, tag it, add a picture, create a stream and easily view it in any maps application because it records the the Latitude and Longitude and even altitude.
